Why All The Spam Recently?

Post by Weasel640 »

I just reported 6 Spam posts.

They had all been previously viewed 3 or more times. Why aren't people reporting these immediately? It's easy to report spam just click the "!" in the lower right hand corner of the post.

There seems to have been a huge increase in Spam in the last 6 or so months. What is the reason for this increase? How can this be stopped or slowed down?

+1 I reported a bunch yesterday also that had views on them.

I would guess that the current forum application may need updating to combat the bot spammers from being able to sign up and post.

I know the spam is a major issue, and to be honest, the forum software was several releases behind. Today it has been upgraded and patched to the latest version, eliminating some major bugs, and hopefully curbing some of the spam we see.

This upgrade was a breaking change to our old theme - meaning, all of the visual elements that had existed before we're compatible with the new software. It's something that's been on my plate for awhile now, though, and I had just enough time to backup/install and visually tweak it just enough for it to still look like home.

As always, thank you to Norm and PapaBear, and thanks to everyone who frequents the forum - this is by far one of the friendliest forums out there!

People still are not reporting the Spam. This afternoon I reported 6 Spam threads that all had more than 9 views. It also seems like a lot of these have to do with shoes. Nike, New Balance, Adidas, etc.
