Question on a P-83
Question on a P-83
I just bought me a P-83 and I noticed the hammer does not touch the firing pin
Is this normal or is there a problem

Re: Question on a P-83
I will have to check mine but I beleive the P83 has a rebounding hammer, like most revolvers, that keeps it off the firing pin.
See if yours passes the pencil test.

Re: Question on a P-83
I recently picked up an IJ70-18A and noticed the same thing. I suppose it's a safety feature? What's the pencil test? If the hammer will snap a #2 it's in good shape or something along those lines?
Re: Question on a P-83
PHG- Do you also have a P64? If so, which do you prefer at this point, and how does the build quality of the P83 compare to the P64? I've recently discovered, and become fascinated with the 9x18 guns, and like the look of the P83 in photos, but I've also read that it's a stamped sheetmetal gun with visible welds, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.Polish HG wrote:I just bought me a P-83 and I noticed the hammer does not touch the firing pin

Re: Question on a P-83
Put a #2 pencel with a new eraser on the end in the barrell.
Point in a safe direction and pull the trigger.
If in working order the pencil will launch out of the barrell.
Watch the hammer as you do it, it should strike the firing pin then reset back from the pin if it is a rebounding hammer.

Re: Question on a P-83
Now that I know it will fire correctly all I need to do is figure out how to strip it so I can clean it after I fire it, but I can not find any info on how to strip it

Also here are two other nice sources of info that I had bookmarked.:
Lublin, Poland - Shooting Association
Katowicach, Poland - Police Academy
Here is the English Google translation. Keep in mind it's choppy due to it being a literal translation, and Google not knowing some words/structure, etc.:
