Hammer strut to hammer gave easy DA trigger.

Post by RobsTV »

Trying to correct issues I was having with the safety, I finally completely dis-assembled the P-64.

Long story short, the hammer strut was not riding on the tiny pin inside the hammer. Instead, it was riding on the curved outer portion of the hammer. It has been that way since the day I got it from Aim, because after placing the strut in the correct position, the DA is now what everyone said it was. Gorilla hard. Amazing that this thing worked so well for the 100's or rounds of shot through it. Using in the way I got it, I would guess DA was around 6 to 8 lbs, or a little heavier than my stock Ruger 22/45 MKII was. Thought everyone was nuts. Sorry. Wow, huge difference.

While apart I used some 0000 steel wool on safety related parts. Cleaned, blew out with air compressor, and lightly oiled. Safety seems to be working correct, but have not taking out to test any of this yet.

Besides hard DA trigger pull now, anything else related to hammer spring that might surprise me at the range?

Sounds like you caught it before you had more problems if the pin broke.

Let us know ho you make out at the range.
