reassembly help!!
Recently after I disassembled my p64, I was unable to put the slide back on. I finally realized that the thin metal piece that holds the slide to the frame was slightly out of position. So I just have to situate it before I reassemble. Is this normal or is it something I should worry about, like " wear and tear" ?

Could you post a picture so we could better understand what metal piece you're talking about?

Re: reassembly help!!
Are you talking about the metal piece that holds the slide open on an empty magazine? If so, I frequently have to push it back into it's place and align it with the axis of the pistol before I can get my slide to go back on. I believe it is fairly normal as I had the same problem with a PA-63 which has a very similar slide hold open lever.
Close enough for Government work will get you dead, ask any Vet.

That must be it. Thank you for the reassurance. It hadn't happened the several tines I stripped it since I bought it. I thought it might have worked loose.

Wait, I am referring to the reddish piece clearly visible. That is the catch u are referring to, right?

If it is the slide stop, then it is the item with the arrow pointing at it in this picture.
It is normal to have to make sure it is pushed in when you go to put the slide back on. If you mess with it, it will wiggle. A slight movement of it, and it will keep the slide from going on the gun.
