Hey Curly,

I just hit the range again today. I had the earlier jams with Silver Bear FMJ.

Today I tried Seller & Bellot and Winchester white box which is a little more expensive.
The S&B performed exactly like the Silver Bear, jamming after 3 rounds pretty consistently.

Then I tried the Winchester and shot the first entirely successful magload -- all six
with no jams or FTFs.

Next time I'll take 5 mags loaded with the Winchester and keep my fingers crossed.
I can use up the other stuff in my CZ-82.

I'm also happy with the spring I got from Norm, which improved the gun's performance,
even with the jammy ammo. (They used to jam on the first shot).

I ordered Wolff springs and am waiting for delivery. Then I'll spend a few hours polishing
and cleaning etc. and will work on the detente spring and safety.

Finally I am going to test some padding for the tang, like gel pads and self-stick insulation.
As it is now the gun has a wicked bite.

All that said, it's a neat little gun and I like shooting it. It's a keeper.

Take 1 each of the different brands and stand them next to each other to see if there are any noticable differences in bullet length/shape or length of the the cases and thickness of the case rims.

Silver bear FMJ runs good in mine.

Hey guys!

I've been extremely busy with work for the past four months (published my first novel) but finally took a break and went to the gun range with my P64. This was after cleaning it extremely well and lubing it with good grease. The gun is still jamming.

After taking the slide off I put a loaded mag in and noticed that it has about 2-3mm of play up and down. Since the jams occur when the top round in a mag presses against the rim of the chambered round, I'm wondering if maybe there's something that should be locking the mag firmly in place that is not working.

I was considering polishing the feed ramp but I'm not sure it's the problem and don't want to grind down anything that doesn't absolutely need it. Also wonder if the feed lips of the mags need to be tapped down or something.

I've posted a pic but it's a bit blurry and might not help. Basically it's like I said above. The top round in the magazine jams up against the one going into the barrel, preventing it from entering all the way.

Any thoughts on this?

Does it still jam even with the Winchester that worked before?

Did you ever take the mags apart and clean them if so are the springs in in correctly?

Hi Curly!

It jammed with the Winchester ammo. The problem seems to be the top of the magazine sitting too high in the gun.

Because it jammed on the very first shot I didn't try the other mags I had on hand. I didn't have time to break the gun down at
the range to clear it. I'll try it again this week and see if I have problems with all my mags.

I did try putting the other mags into the pistol at home and most of them fit snugly, so maybe it was a faulty magazine.

I also tried bending the feed lips down a bit but the magazines are incredibly strong compared to most.
So I'm thinking it's unlikely that the feed lips are warped because they're super strong.

I will test the other mags and try to narrow the possibilities. I know the gun is cleaned and lubed
and all the parts are properly installed. Even the safety which was very tight before now works
much better. Moves freely with a little effort but isn't too loose.

FYI, the mag design did change slightly over the years, in particular, the way the notches are cut by the feed lips. I don't think the height changed, but I could be wrong.

Hey Curly!

Happy to report that for the first time ever I managed to empty all six shots from a mag without a single FTF.
It was my first trip to the range after polishing the feed ramp with my dremel and cleaning it again with gunblaster.

I still had a slight problem with one of the three mags I had on me, so I will have to go over all my mags carefully
to see if any are a little different.

I'm really relieved because I was getting tempted to sell the gun. I think with a few more trips to the range and
sorting out my mags I can have a reliable pistol.

Thanks again for all your help!

Hey Curly1! After a followup test shoot I can happily confirm that I have a totally reliable P-64.
Emptied two full mags with zero FTFs or jams of any kind. The third mag I tried is faulty. I'll keep
tweaking the feed lips and maybe replace the mag spring. I have a few other mags I have
yet to test. But at least now I know the gun itself seems to be functioning as it should.
I think polishing the feed ramp did the trick. Finally hit the sweet spot.

Thanks again for all your help.

Great, don't you luv it when a plan comes together? :)

Is the faulty mag one of the reproductions that we have seen some posts on here regarding reliability?

FINALLY!!! Polishing the feed ramp seems to have done the trick. A month ago I had success emptying a few mags with no hitch.
Today I took along five mags loaded with 5 rounds each. Not a single FTF, double-feed or FTE.

I was impressed again at how accurate it was for its size (and my old eyes). It's an intuitive point and shoot gun.
The kick is something else though.
