Cleaning the cleaning brass brushes

Post by dalek »

After you went shooting and then cleaned the barrel with your trusty brass brush, how do you clean the brush itself? Carb and brake cleaner seemed to be useless...

I wrap the brush in a clean rag and gently squeeze. Since the last thing that touches the bore is a cleaning swab I don't sweat brush cleanliness much.

I try to make sure I've got a couple of layers in between me and the brush before squeezing; those bristles are sharp!

I run them thru with a dry patch wrapped around them or dry with this stuff wrapped around them.

I never clean them.

I keep a glass jar full of rubbing alcohol (with a metal screw cap). When I want to clean the brush I dip it in the jar, swoosh it around a bit then squezze it in a rag, works great.
