Like many others, glad I found this thread.

Had the same issue with my 22# Wolff recoil spring. Didn't have a dowel, so I gingerly removed enough metal with a fine stone on a bench grinder. Works like a champ.

Thanks, All!

I just installed Wolff recoil springs in two newly purchased P64's. :D Its easier getting a divorce than putting the darn slide back on. After numerous attempts with both firearms, I finally did get the slide back on.

Was thinking what the hell is this Pollack doing wrong :?: Was also thinking that this firearm is Polish and I am Polish, thus we should bond. Just hope that I do not need to take them apart for some time to come.

You are most likely going to have to refer to the first page of this thread to fix this issue.

Thanks Weasel for the info.

I guess like many people, I should have read about the new springs before I opted for an upgrade.

Just have to ask. After time and firing of the firearm. Would the slide spring perhaps loose just enough tension to allow easier removal of the slide :?: Or, is it just wishful thinking ? :? And their just is to much material in the Wolff springs ?

It seems to be the latter. To much material. They have said that the fixed the issue. But it's still happening.

Using a pair of leather gloves to get a better grip on the slide works well also.

After reading Weasel's post that Wolff is aware of the spring problem and addressed it. I fired of a message to Wolff asking if indeed they were aware of the problem ? If they were, then why does the problem still exist ? And also asked if within the past two weeks of my order, did they send me old springs ?

Wondering now, if I will get a reply. If I do, I will pass any info on that addresses the problem.

As I previously stated, I messaged the Wolff Spring company in regards to the spring problem.

I do have to admit that they did reply within 24 hours and following was their reply to the P64 spring.

Hello Sir,

Thanks for your email and for purchasing our springs. First, it would be normal for the slide to be a little more difficult getting the slide back on because the recoil spring is new and has not been compressed. Second, yes, we did have an issue with the 22 lb. recoil springs (you purchased 20 lb. recoil springs) in 2011. We corrected the problem by grinding the ends of the recoil spring which removed enough material to allow for installation and removal of the slide.

To be clear, we have never had a problem with the 20 or 18 lb. recoil springs we make and sell for the Polish P64 pistols. Unless the recoil springs are defective, you should not have any problem with them.

Yeah not their problem... People come here and find the fix, and do it themselves. But it has been an on going thing and has not seemed to have been fixed at all.
