Help.... I just got my 22# recoil spring, and the firing pin spring that goes with it. How does one install the firing pin spring???
Also I literally can not get the slide to mate with the rails on the new recoil spring??? and it's not a question of strength..... is there ANYTHING that can be done to make this spring work???

The second post will give you the info you need, I just put in the spring that came with the 22# recoil and it went pretty smooth. Only had to chase a few parts, did'nt have a big enough and clear enough bag! 8-) That spring loaded plunger on the safety was a bit of a challenge getting back in.

There is another thread that discusses that.

Found it. 7th post down.
I'll try to find it and post it later. You might find it just reading or trying the search function. I had the same problem. I ended up firing up the Ryobi (Dremel clone) and used a cut off wheel as a D/A grinder and flattened the two ends down to look like the factory spring. Quenched with oil while doing it so as not to overheat and change the spring steel. Also used a small stone to round off the end of the wire on the tight end towards the chamber. It was really digging into the barrel pretty good. If your not to confident in your use of grinders you may have to drop to the 20# spring. I've been using die grinders for the last 30+ years and they've become second nature to me now. Just take it slow and keep cooling the metal and you should be good.

The first thing I do is I find a clear plastic bag I can put both of my hands in and put the gun slide in it ,that way I don't have don't have any springs flying around the room
to take a firing pin out , the first thing to do is to push the firing pin forward then take a pair of hemostats and clip them on the ex stinted part of the firing pin, then with a dental pick push the safety catch plunger in
and turn the safety till it comes out put back in reverse order

to put recoil spring in ( most common mistakes )
make sure you put the small end of the spring on the barrel first
make sure the trigger guard is down and hammer is back

the clear bag is not my idea someone else posted it on this board I think in 2005 but it works you can get dental picks and hemostats at gun shows and car shows that's where I buy them
it's cheaper than the dental supply co.

Wolff always includes a new, HEAVIER firing pin spring with their kits. I think they do this for liability reasons. Personally, I would just leave the factory f/p pin in the pistol.

I think if you have the spring I would change it. Taking several of these apart the quality of some of the firing pin springs is lack luster. Some of the ones I have seen were rusted and that is something you will never know until you strip it and replace it (some are perfectly fine). It is not hard to replace it... you will need two very small screw drivers and one larger one to make it easy. Be careful when removing the safety out which will first release the stud and spring that presses in on the female grooves on the safety lever itself. Move safety lever in up position, one screw driver blade holds spring back away from safety lever, larger screw driver gently leverages away off of slide to push lever out at the same time being mindful of the spring and male post flying out once cleared from safety lever groove (use a bag like norm stated) then continue pressing the safety lever out it will try and go cockeyed on you so keep it straight and it will come out then watch the firing pin and spring shooting out when you slowly release the firing pin and spring with the small screw driver you were previously holding it with. Putting it back together is easy just revers the order except this time the second small screw driver will hold the detent spring and post back in the hole till the safety lever captures it. Good luck.

I could not get my slide back on when I tried to install the #22 recoil spring. I had to take the dremel tool and flatten both ends of the spring and then it slipped right in just fine. Thanks for the tip, Manicmechanic. I just took it slow and easy and it worked.
