WANTED: Wood furniture for Armscor M5

Post by gman68w »

If you're not familiar with it, here's a good review on it.

I've seen photos of wood buttstocks and foregrips in the wild, I've seen the parts in the Numrich catalog (albeit out of stock), so I know they exist, and that I'm not crazy. But when I last wrote to RIA, the response was "We don't have wood furniture for that gun. Never have."

Anyone have any of these woodstocks? Or snoopy enough to know where some may be? Failing that, would you know what make and model shotgun would be closest to the M5 (which I'm told is a clone of the old High Standard Flite King), so I can get ahold of a stock for that gun, and put in the least amount of work into altering it?

Just finished fitting a Flite King k121 stock set to my M5 (great little trench gun BTW).
The buttstock went on with little to no effort, the forend required inletting for the double action bars (Flite King was single bar).

Also, I had to cut around 2" off the muzzle end of the forearm, as the action tube is much shorter on the M5. I cut mine near-flush to preserve the checkering, so I ended up using the castle nut that came with the forend. Cut an extra 1/4" if you plan on using the M5 nut.

(Man, the camera really highlights my shoddy touchup job  )

Final note: be very careful when removing the forend assembly, as the action bars can get tweaked, particularly the magazine stop side. Nothing that can't be straightened out, but an avoidable hassle.

Great, now I've just got to find those parts. I've got the 6" ringed forend that was made for the M5, just need a buttstock.

There are a handfull of stocks on Ebay currently, JC Higgins model 20 is supposedly the same as H-S K121.

I found a place that has JC Higgins Model 20 stocks for sale that they make themselves, but they say that the closest match to it is the High Standard Model 200. Is that the same as the Flite King?

Numrich lists the K-121 stock as #745910B, the Model 200 is #745910A, likely same stock, different checkering/finish/trim

I have read (but not verified) that Mossberg 500 furniture can be pretty reasonably adapted to the M5

Well I ordered the JC Higgins stock from gunstocksinc.com, now I need to find someone who can help with the fitting.

Did your buttstock come with a recoil pad? The stock I got from the place I ordered it from sent it to me raw (unstained, unsanded, no bolts or anything)

No recoil pad, and the OEM rubber off the synthetic stock is a hair undersized, but will work. I am planning on getting one of these Image

The JC Higgins stock I got is just a hair too wide in places, and I haven't found a bolt long enough to hold it in place. Can't find anyone local to do the woodworking, so I'm stuck for the time being.
