Mini-14's don't like bumpfiring, apparently.

As part of the celebrations last night, some pals and I spent an hour or so on the backyard range with fireworks of our own. I brought out the ranch rifle to pop the gongs a few times, and then someone asked me if I've ever bumpfired with it. I said I'd heard of bumpfiring, but never tried it. Guy said with the free-floating pin it'd be easy, and showed me how it worked. I tucked the butt under my arm, grasped the forend of the stock, and pulled the whole thing forward.

Pa-pa-pa-clank-clatter! Those last two sounds were the entirety of the trigger assembly just falling out of the rifle, along with the magazine. Cleared the chamber, popped the trigger back in, loaded up again, same thing happened. It was good for a few laughs to see the whole rifle literally fall to pieces like in some old comedy short, but I'm concerned if this is just the nature of a rifle that begins takedown with a triggerguard, or if something in it's been weakened. Seems I've had a fair few issues with trigger guards lately.

IIRC you have to pull back on the trigger assembly to start the removal. So I would say yes bump firing would automate that process.

Yeah, just pull back and down on the guard there and the whole thing just slides right out. It's all held together solely by the spring tension of the guard, which is great if you need to quickly perform a battlefield strip-n-lube. But since mine is just for around the backyard, I'm gonna see what I can't do about adding a pin or screw or something.

Never tried it with my old side folder, 181 series if I recall, don't think I'll be trying it.

Well it hasn't broken anything, it just caused an automatic field-strip. Won't hurt you to try
