Post by gilmaxter »

Well guys after a lot and I mean a lot of shop papers.
Brake cleaner and elbow grease and rem oil I finally did it.

Now I wonder what kind of mosin I have.
Its from 1927 and from izhveck and it has a pressure srping bayonet which is odd never seen that on any.mosin.

That would be an ex or updated dragoon prior to 1930.

I figured, is there any way I can revert it to a dragoon ?
I know I just need to change the sights on it.

You said there is a pressure spring bayonet. Can you give a picture of that?

Looks like a standard russian cruciform bayonet. Why did you say "spring bayonet"?

Most of the bayonet ones I see here dont use the sring or the button to be put on the rifle they use something that look like clamps.

And I say spring because it has a spring button that clamps into the barrel. But I cant get it to work dispite it all being matching serial numbers. Well except the butt stick that one has two serial numbers but one of them is crossed out. Not sure why could be a replacement made from the refurbishing.

Looks to me like a standard 91-30 bayonet. Soak it in cleaner / acetone / gasoline ( not really recommened because of flammability issues but will work) for a few hours and then liberally douse it with Kroil and let it set overnight and see if that will loosen it up. And the reason your butt plate has a original serial number that is different is because when these were arsenaled after WWII all the parts were put in piles and when they were reassembled if they could find matching numbers they would use them, if not then whichever one fit got used. That is why checking headspace before firing is important in a rifle that has a force matched bolt serial number which it sounds like you do not. Go to "7.62x54r.net" you will find.more information about Moisin's than you THOUHT you wanted to know.

Will do, will have to check with the local gunsmith here. Disassembled the bolt completely to remove all that cosmoline and I followed what the vids say about alignment of the screw. But will have it checked before hand. Not to mention clean that barrel up some more.
