Homemade pocket holster

Post by SMSRods »

Made myself a pocket holster for my new P64. We still don't have carry here in Hellinois, but hopefully soon. Figured I'd try my hand at a few holsters to see what I like when it comes time. Here's my first attempt at a pocket holster. Any tips/suggestions are appreciated.

It would be best if you add belt in it, to easily tie it on your waist. But I appreciate with your finish product.

Welcome to the forum Frank.

The pocket holster would be in your pocket not on your waist.

No machine. This was hand sewn with a saddle stitch using waxed linen thread. I've been messing with leather for a few months now. First holster I have tried. Got a few other ideas in the works.

Do you use some kind of vise to hold the Holster as you stitch ?

Do you pre-punch the holes ?

I use a harness stitching awl to punch the holes and punch as i sew. I just mark the line i want to stitch and then try to stay on it. For now I a just using a padded vice when I stitch. Working on making a stitching pony to hold the piece to stitch. Supposed to be easier that way from what I've read.

Very nice !

I did leather work many years ago, and enjoyed it.

Thanks. I've still got A LOT to learn. I've only made this and some civil war reenacting items. Learning, and having fun with it though.

Looks nice to me! My only suggestions would be to allow for more clearance under the triggerguard for a better grip on the gun and to follow the profile with the stitch line a bit closer. Really great job!
