Good load for P64

Post by fknipfer1 »

Loaded up and shot 50 rounds of reloaded rounds for the P64 pistol. Used 3.6grs of W2311 and 93gr Midwest casting COL of .970. At 10yds fired ten rounds into a 3 to 4" group so they were exceedingly accurate. Also a good side effect I could shoot 50 rounds and not have to rest my hand. Recoil was extremely reasonable or mild, enjoyed shooting the ammo.

I have shot Russian ammo thru the gun and quit after 20rds, so the recoil was a pleasant surprise. I sure have some ammo now for practice and plinking. Also no leading with the load so I am assuming it was between 900 to 950fps I will chrongraph the load next time I take it to range to be sure of FPS.

That's very close to my plinking load - I've settled on 3.7 grains of w231 behind a 95 grain cast bullet.

I use the Norm Sutton pet load of 4.0 grains w231 behind a 95 grain cast bullet for social work. It's hot but not too hot for the P64.

I chrongraphed the 3.6grs of W231 and 100gr LRN Missouri Cast bullet and was a little disappointed it shot as follows with ten rounds:

Low 862
high 950
avg 904
es 86
sd 29

I was hoping the average would be around 950fps but they weren't, it didn't shoot bad and you could shoot it all day without a lot of sting to hands. Its a good plinking round but not a carry round for CCW. I am waiting for the new Hornady 9mm Mak round of CDI and will carry that. I was reading the other day a 38spl with 1 7/8" barrel go 15.2" inches of penetratrion with it expanded to about .500. Now that a good carry round.

My favorite load.....
Hornady XTP 95g
3.6g of Titegroup @ .965 OAL which is very consistent at 1050 FPS
