22 rim fire into 224 rifle bullets

Papabear brought me down a coffee can of 22 rim fire brass

the first thing I did was to anneal the brass , ,put it in a pan , put the pan , on a hot plate, heat up until it the brass changes color

this takes a special set of dies to pull the rim off

Read about this somewhere else, but they didn't have nice pictures like this. Interesting to be able to take junk .22 rimfire cases and actually reuse them to make a bullet. Good stuff Norm.

Norm,

Excellent post and the pics and videos really set it up great. All this was beyond my understanding when you asked me about bringing down some .22 rim fire brass, but having a strong back and weak mind I at least managed to bring the brass..... ;D. This thread put everything in respective and very understandable, however, only being a second year student of reloading and not having anything that shoots 224 rifle bullets, it will probably be a while before I can try this but I have bookmarked it and save it for a later date. Thanks for sharing all this with us.

I have moulds for just about every thing I load for , from 577 Snider to the 9 x 18 , use scarp lead , and for brass I use range pick ups, I made a deal with a friend of mine for all his dad's powder, so I won't have to buy any more pistol powder , I can load all my pistol's for the cost of the primers which is about $40 a thousand

I just bought that RCBS rock chucker press about 2 year's ago , it was a used press and it had like a bicycle grip on it went to the auto parts store and bought a gear shift knob and put on it , the other press I had was a strong press but won't take a 1' die had it for 33 years and its still going strong ,I gave it to a good friend that wanted to start reloading

Must be nice to know that every time you pull the trigger, you're only spending about 4 cents per shot. I wish I could do that. Sounds like you've got all the hook-ups. Ha-ha.

Pretty neat, NormSutton.

You have just duplicated the 1940s work of Vernon Speer and Fred Huntington. Speer of course founded the company that bears his name and Huntington founded the Rock Chuck Bullet Swage company, today known as RCBS. There was a shortage of ammunition and components during the war, except for 22 rimfire.
