Re: looking for a 45
I traded for a brand new RIA GI, a little while back. Since then I did some mods to it. For the price of the RIA's you just can't go wrong.
Re: looking for a 45
Thanks everybody. I think i will be enjoying a new gun for Christmas. Happy holidays everybody!!!
Re: looking for a 45
I have a RIA and have had no problems. I also found a NIB Norinco online and bought it for just under $500. including shipping and FFL fee. They are excellent guns. That may be another option.
Re: looking for a 45
You might be able to find a used Colt for about $600.

Re: looking for a 45
Here's my Para-USA 1911 Government. It's a last gen PXT 1911 SSP. Has all the bells and whistles. $600 at a gun show. It's been very reliable aside from when the recoil spring wore out after 1000 rounds, with a new recoil spring it jammed for about 250 rounds and now it hasn't jammed in 500. I'd recommend them, but get different magazines. Para's mags are no good IMO.
I also have a friend with a RIA and he loves it. Although it's a 9mm so the 45 may be way different.

Re: looking for a 45
Just throwing it out there, but Sarco has RIA 1911's going for under $400. You could even build one from their parts kits and "a la carte" RIA frames for just under $350.
Re: looking for a 45
Has anyone here ever built one from their parts kit? I saw them too and thought I might try it. I know I can get it together but I'm not too good at trimming or fitting.
Re: looking for a 45
I just got a High Standard Crusader Compact a little over a month ago. It's a knockoff of the Colt General Officer's model w/3.5" barrel and a 6 round capacity. I thought the 3.5" barrel would present problems as far as accuracy and control, but it's a real pleasure to shoot and the recoil is much less punishing than my P-64. The only changes I made were to abandon the stock extended magazine and replace it with 6-round Mec-Gars, put some Pachmayr grips on, drilled a 1/16" depression in the back of the front sight and filled it with blaze orange paint, drilled two on either side of the notch of the "Novak style" rear sight and filled them with white paint. Got it new on Gunbroker for $500 including shipping. Out of 100 rounds of Winchester 230gr. FMJ, I only had one FTF and attribute that to the ammo. Out of the box it shoots better than I do.
No complaints whatsoever and I'd recommend it to anyone.
