I just worked on one 2 weeks ago , it had a bad firing pin in it . also had a spot of rust in the chamber , change the firing pin out , he got the firing from sarco, took a 40 cal stainless steel bore brush put it in a drill and polished the chamber , then polished the feed ramp for him , now the guy loves the gun, star made good guns

+1 with Norm on the Star pistols, my only experience with them is the Star BM 9mm and its been a gem for me, I really like the all steel pistols, and if we take care of em they will last us a long time.

Norm and others,
I am glad that you folks started this thread. The Star Modelo Super has been one of the greatest guns to shoot, yet a source of frustration as well. I have not been able to de-bug it, despite taking it to a gunsmith. Soon after I bought it, the extractor broke. I replaced the extractor, but I still get a lot of FTE's. I have never had a FTF with it, but it just is not reliable in its extraction. Any ideas? Also, SARCO has been a pain at times. I had problems even getting parts a while back because the BATF was investigating the disappearance of a bunch of these guns. I don't know if it was theft or clerical error, but it made the news.

I decided on the RIA commander instead ???,already have the Tactical, coming from Bellshires on Gunbroker,$395.00 otd. These are hard to come by right now. Norm I know your very familiar with RIA's! Sarco Inc. is expecting about 400 of the the Star MS's in the near future, price I was told will be $149.95+$20.00 shipping, from what I gather these are easily converted to 38 super http://community.livejournal.com/guns/1927982.html,may have to pick one up for this price point!!

Whats the takedown and accuracy like? I will most likely use this as my CCW,not to bad to conceal as I am 6'3" 260lbs.

I use these type of paper clips

Image

You can get two take down pin's form one paper clip

Image

Stick empty mag in the gun , pull back slide,
Then eject mag

Image

Take paper clip, put in hole of guide rod

Image

Push slide release
Line up slide and push slide release out, slide off slide

Image

Push guide rod back leaving paper clip in place, guide rod ,spring & reverse bushing should come out all in one piece

Image

Barrel should come out normally

Put back together in reverse order

Only Star Pistol I have now is a M-45 FireStar in .45ACP. My first was a 9 MM BKM. The M-45 is incredibly accurate! :o

Sapo, I test fired a Firestar in 9mm. Very compact, very heavy, a pants dragger. It shot very well and accurate, recoil for size non-existant. The only thing that held me back was price $285.00 used. One guy that looked at it before was whining about it being single action only (nutty), my friend said after I started looking at it, the guy came back and got it. A real well made piece.

protector,

I have both the RIA Commander [older model called the MS for mid size] and the RIA Tactical, I really like em both. I did put Trijicon sights and a set of home made oak laminated grips on the commander but other wise its stock, as for the RIA Tactical the only change I made was a set of Grip Guys grips, they both function perfectly with all factory and reload ammo, however, I did polish the ramps in both and I don't use the factory magazines, I strictly only use GI 7rd mags in all my .45acp's.

Very fine specimens of RIA's, Norm and papabear,I'll post pic's of mine after the MS gets here,I do want a skeletonized hammer on the MS instead of the mil spec hammer...(snagfree),and OK,OK,maybe some Pachmayr rosewood decelerator grips like on my tactical, man there are so many nice upgrades for these...oops highjacked my own thread! :P

I've seen some Star pistols around and I guess I'm just not up to speed on them. Is 9mm Largo different than the regular modern 9mm?
