That's a beautiful rifle. You might check the page on 7.62x54r.net that discusses the rarity of each model before you do much irreparable modification.

Did the slip on recoil pad come with it? Does anyone know where to get one of those? My shoulder starts getting tired after about 30 rounds.

The Walmart near me carries a small-sized slip-on pad by Pachmayer that fits the Mosin very well. Probably your Walmart does too. Costs $14.95.

That's a Pachmayer, size Medium. I picked it up at Sportsmans Warehouse for $9.99.

It sounded like it was a worth while purchase....I still have yet to fire it without it. It does do a good job.

we had some nice russian m-44s with laminate stocks at work, we sold 'em both in three days (CBI was down sunday). I was tempted to pick one up but we can't keep 'em in stock long enough. I am also debating a winchester 1300 defender we have, nice shotty and I can get it for $260 out the door...

yours it nice, i'd say keep it as it sits...

Went by the local gunshop the other day and they had four NICE M-44s on sale for 79.95. Today they only had two. One followed me home & I'll get his brother tomorrow.

Its about mint looking. The last one they have I'll get tomorrow. It just has a slight scrape on the stock finish,, but for the price, I'll take it. I can always cover the scrape. They all come with the double mag pouch, oiler, tools & sling. :)
