didn't know where to put this

Post by blinddog »

It started on Dec. 7th.
When it will end, we do not know.
But I would like to tell some of you
with names like....Bill and Joe.

Yes, you know a war is going on
You listen to the radio alright.
But I often wonder if you know
Just what the war is like.

You read about it in the papers,
and see it in the show.
Just what this war is like,
I'm sure you do not know.

I have some news papers over here,
That my folks send me from home.
Just one look at the head lines,
makes us give out with a moan.

The head lines in the paper read,
'There is another strike'.
Can you imagine reading this,
Then going out to fight?

"What the hell is wrong with them?"
I asked of Ted and Mike.
Then Ted bowes his head.
and says "This isn't right"

He's thinking of pals who lie wounded,
of their parents, and those who were wed.
Tears roll down his cheeks,
When he thinks of his buddies.....dead.

When he goes to sleep tonight,
Yes, thats right,
He's thinking of people who
Don't know what war is like,

The war will soon be over,
Thats what people say,
But how can they think such things.
When they are striking every day.

There aren't any high class words,
so I'm sure you will understand,
Just imagine you and I are
Talking.....man-to-man.

So let's get those tanks 'a rollin'
Rolling with all their might------
and keep those bombers flyin',
so we can win this fight.

Pray, that people will soon wake up
And see that I am right,
When I tell them they don't know

This poem I have written
Means alot to me,
So come on you people
LETS WORK FOR VICTORY.

wow, when reading that I figured it was current.

It is really touching as well and relevant to the present. It's interesting to learn about people doing the same things back in WWII that they are doing now (protesting) but that has faded into dust and and left only the true heroes for the history books.

I hope when I have children and grandchildren, they will read in their history books about the selfless sacrifice out men and women in uniform have laid down to protect our freedom in my generation and leave the protesters as a d@$n footnote!

I was going through some of my Dad's stuff and I found a piece of paper and read it. It was written by a guy that was in my Uncles outfit. I thought it would be nice to share it with people that would appreciate it for what it was. Also it is a good time to say something about the USMC.

I think the poem's not about protestors, but about unionized striking. During WWII, the Congress of Industrial Organizations agreed to limit striking. However, some shops still ended up on strike because of working conditions. Usually pretty short, but according to Wikipedia, there were as many strikes during the middle of the war as there were during 1937...

It'd have to be depressing for a front line guy to see the people that are making the tanks, planes, and ammo close up shop and bring supply lines to a trickle. ..

salckone, I do believe that you are right on about the union striking. Reading about it demoralised(spelling?) alot of the troops. However it is obvious that they did the job and did it right. I could go on and on about this but I think I will leave it at that. Thanks for reading this poem written by a Marine some where on the Pacific front that none of us know.
