This is the best that I can do, I like it. The grain of the wood reminds me of the original just with less shine, flaking and sticky black spots that I couldn't get clean. The hand guard is really nice and clean looking compared to the black flakey mess it was.

There you go...my very first effort. 8-)

Sorry for the lousy pics but my batteries are dying and I had to keep turning the camera back on and off to try to snap another.

The sights are put away...the scout mount and scope is next. One step at a time... ::)

Nice and clean looking... Is the wood as smooth as it looks?

Thanks all, it wasn't as difficult as I thought...except the waiting part. I could have given it more stain but didn't want to wait for the drying blah, blah , blah.

Yes it is absolutely as smooth as it looks... stripper, sandpaper, fine sandpaper, steel wool then every coat of stain dried and got buffed with 0000 steel wool then each coat of semi-gloss poly dried and got buffed right up to the last one.

I might have liked it a little darker, other than that I'm very happy with the result. 8-)

Carguy~ That is absolutely Beautiful ! Patience was the hard part as you said ! I know what you mean about the handguards, They are like a fine piece of french furniture ! Light, delicate and they feel like a fine drumstick in the hand. When I took mine off, my wife held it and said " That's very nice , Can you get a longer one?" uuuuuh
I don't think my short one will ever be as fine as your ,ahem... 91/30. I have put my M44 back together and shoot it as is. I will see if I can beat my 2 yr. Mossberg .22 project. G
