Norm,

Congratulations on the great M1 buy! That is a nice looking M1. Have you had a chance to shoot it yet; keep us posted. You did make the buy of the show at that price. I know you are proud of this beauty!

I have one M1, a Springfield made in 1943, and all original except the charging handle which is an approx 1945 vintage and the 4-slot gas plug. I have installed a repro 2-slot gas plug, but still keep the one that came with it. Mine shoots great at 200 yds.

Norm,

That is a nice looking stock! Now all you need to do is get the repro stamps on the wood and it will be perfect, LOL.....Actually, there is a guy in Atlanta or Stone Mountain that has all the correct stamps and I have heard he does a good job. I think the stamps are "off" just enough that a collector won't be fooled.

I am like you wanting to go to the range with the new K98ks.

took out Sunday fired 6 clips though it , to make sure it function alright, and it did , the next time I will sight it in as soon as figure out what load I'm going to shoot in it. I think 150 grn. bullets I got are to light , I'm thinking maybe 165 grn BT bullet would be better. in my 03A3 I'm using 180 grn BT bullet and its perfect

Rate of burn and the proper pressure curve are important when loading for the M1. Of course, I'm sure you've already researched that.

Norn,

Your S/N indicates it was made in 1952; does the barrel date come close to this? You may know about this website, but here is a link: http://www.armscollectors.com/srs.htm

You can enter the serial number for a loooot of weapons and get the approx. date of manufacture. I have used this search a lot.

Bzinggg,
Is that a scope rail or a "cheese grater" type hand guard on top of the 3rd from the top Garrand? I can't tell but it looks interesting.

I wish I had the extra cash I'd be on the phone to SOG already with a handpicked one. Timing is everything isn't it? I'm waiting for the first semester tuition bill as my son is back in college tomorrow.

I guess college comes before an M1... ???...I'm sure college comes before an M1... :o... DAMN, college definitely comes before an M1... :(
