All milsurp firearms, including the 9x18 Makarov caliber pistols, should be checked by a qualified gunsmith before attempting to fire them. orchidhunter

I believe I have read those exact words on the tags hanging from my military surplus firearms.

Yep, mine say the samething. Even on my M-44 and my 91/30. My thought is if you find an abnormality you should have it checked out by someone who knows firearms, but be careful because alot of gun smiths will tell you your firearm is a hunk of junk. You made a good point orchidhunter, thanks for sharing. :)

orchidhunter,

Excellent advice...I seem to recall seeing you post it elsewhere recently. Have you had a bad experience recently or ever that prompted this public service message?? I don't mean that sarcastically at all...just wondering.

orchidhunter, I've read that on all of the milsurp weapons that have come from arsenals to me via the retailing agent. You know it only makes sense and I'm sorry to say that I've just taken for granted that it was just a disclaimer to protect the wholesaler and retailers from law suites. Thanks for the eye opener.

In fairness to the milsurp crowd, I must say, this warning is applicable to all used firearms. Stay safe. orchidhunter

God protect us from bureaucrats and others who feel compelled to constantly warn us of potential hazards. Polyester leisure suits may cause cancer in rats. Good grief!

Sounds like job security for gunsmiths to me.

The times I've shot my 64 with my former ccw class, I had difficulty flipping up the strongly sprung safety lever in a draw from IWB and fire situation. The instructor suggested carrying safety off and hammer down. Then cock the hammer when drawing. I found this to be must easier and a more confident method. I feel that if you are going to carry a firearm. then you need to not only be sensitive to your surroundings, but how to handle the possibly dangerous piece of Polish steel you have attached to your body. If you can't handle it don't carry it. Just my rant.
