9x18's

Post by oscarmayer711 »

being the old fart that i am i've been into guns for well over 40 yrs. and have come to the opinion that the p-64 is highly under-rated. as i was sorting out the gun safe i set aside all my 9x18's . 2 "maks" 1 e ger, 1 russ, a polish p83 and p-64 and a cz82 and the feg p63 ? of all of them the p-64 is the perfect size for the round. it's built like a tank and so far after at least 1000 rds thru her not one issue. the double action pull isn't as nice as the cz but being a m1911a1 guy i alway pull the hammer back for the first shot. so tigger pull isn't a issue. now i think i have all the bases covered but are there any other 9x18 out there worth owning ? oh and if interested i have it from a trusted source p83 vanads are soon to be the next "surplus" handgun shipping here in mass.

I agree about the P64. I hope that you are correct about the P83. I have been looking for one at a decent priced and just bought one in the box w/ 2 mags, cleaning rod & holster for $375 shipped. Consider FEG SMC-918. I really like mine. Similar size of P64 but lighter weight. I am also looking for FEG R61 and BR61.

Yes, it is an Eagle Edition. I understand that they had 2 production runs of these, the first being 100 pistols and a later run of 200 pistols.

rumor has it about what the cz82 is going for. which is good news for those that want one but bad news for those of us that had to have one when offered by davlar ?(sp) a few yrs back. horror story ... bought one paid about 325 ( special edition) spare numbered mag and wooden presentation box nice outfit but i traded it off 1 yr later got 175 for it 1 month later it still sat in my dealers case rebought it for 250 :( so i have so much invested in it i'd have to keep it 100 yrs to ever get my money back on it maybe longer if the market gets flooded with the surplus imports i hear that are coming.

i would tend to agree since the blue book of gun values does list thew special edition seperately than a plain p83

So you have $400 in it. I am certain that you would have no lack of prospective buyers for $400+. Even if some standard P83s come in, they will not be cheap and IMHO the limited production Eagle Edition will only increase in value. Try finding one for less than $450 + shipping. I feel as though I got a bargain at $375 shipped price.

Maybe I'm confusing it with something else but isn't the P83 what replaced the P64? I've heard that they are not the highest quality pistols. Are they the ones that are manufactured out of stamped sheet metal (it sounds worse than it probably is but that is how it was described to me) for purpooses of cost reduction??

If it is, why are we getting excited about it being the next C&R? Other than the obvious...it's a 9x18.

A P83 would be different for many of us that like the 9x18
pistols, myself included.

Don't get me wrong...I love the 9x18 caliber and have 3 different pistols that shoot it. As more become milsurp I'm sure I'll own one. In Massachusetts the state makes it tough tobuy most handguns, so C&R is my savior.

I love the idea of having multiple weapons that fire the same caliber. I wish there was some sort of a rifle, assault weapon that shot the 9x18 as well.

I love the idea of another affordable milsurp.

I was just trying to understand if I was mis-informed regarding the P83's quality. I'm spoiled by the 9x18 pistols I have...each one is better than the next in quality, durability, reliability and pleasure to shoot. This was not meant to cast aspersions on the P83 or 9x18s in general, just a fact finding thread.

My P83 is great and I like just about everything about it.

However, I do like the mag capacity of my CZ82 better.

I especially like the mag release on my P83. I hope a bunch to come in since parts will be easier to get if I have a problem, but none so far.

I am not dinging on P83's, but the P64 is a more solid construction. CZ82's are even pretty solid compared to a P83.

Trent: I got enough problems buying handguns in Massachusetts,
how difficult do you think getting a Class 3 license would
be...pretty much IMPOSSIBLE! But it sure would be fun!!

Steve: I love the P64 and CZ82...and if/when the P83 becomes
C&R, I'll buy one of those too...just because. I wish the
PA63 was C&R, I hear good and bad about those too but
it's a9x18 so I need one...eventually!
