P64 Hard Safety Action

Post by macado42 »

The safety on this gun is extremely difficult to turn on and off....I have had it apart, cleaned it, and I believe the safety detent (part # 33) and safety detent spring (part # 32) are warn out....Are these parts available for purchase anywhere??.....Thank you !!

There's threads in the modifications section on reshaping the plunger and iirc a replacement spring that's available.
Also look at the threads on modifying the detent cut out on the decocker.

Buy the parts listed above. You'll notice a distinct difference between your old plunger and the new one.

Mine was so stiff that I was afraid I was going to break the lever.

Get a disassembly guide and follow it carefully. I bought one off the interwebz but there may be a PDF download version on this site. When it comes time to remove the firing pin and spring, do the disassembly inside a plastic bag, because parts fly out and then disappear. I found the firing pin spring underneath a cabinet next to my workbench and, after an hour of looking, found the firing pin inside a 3-ring binder on a bookshelf about four feet away.

Before reassembly, I took the safety detent and a small round jeweler's file and filed a shallow "feed ramp" going into the detent hole. I then took a dremel tool and polished the new feed ramp as well as the tip of the new detent pin. Then put some M1 Garand grease on it (USA! USA!) and reassembled everything (inside a plastic bag this time).

Safety now works as easily and smoothly as the one on my Walther PPK/S.
