Some of the magazine's parts look plastic.

Would it be safe to let them soak in diseal fuel overnight?

Thanks

"Nothing Cuts Grease Like DAWN" --- has anyone here ever tried Dawn Dish soap on Cosmoline yet? I know it works excellent on all manner of grease I have ever had on me. Just curious. G

G

I have heard of guys using DAWN before

you have to put in a pot or water on the stove and boil the parts

from what I understand Cosmolin is a mixture of grease and wax or paraffin

There is a product called "Simple Green" that I use on all kinds of grease stains. I don't think there is anything else better and it's environmentally safe. You can actually drink the stuff but I wouldn't. :P

Ask your better half if she has some for cleaning or laundry. You will be amazed at how well this stuff works.

Hot water works pretty good, if you do it in a plastic container, use one that you don't mind staining

Kind of random but when I got my Mosin Nagant 91/30 the shoulder strap had cosmoline imbedded in the fabric, so I boiled some water in a kettle and held the affected area over the protruding steam and it took it right out.

A long time ago I bought the AGI (American Gunsmithing Institute) video on the Makarov. In that video, the 'smith uses Simple Green and hot water. It doesn't specifically mention cosmoline removal; he was just showing how to clean the pistol. He swore by Simple Green.

What I did was take them apart, clean them with hoppes, put a few drops of oil in my fingers and ran my fingers over the mag and spring for a VERY light coating and put them back togther.

Took about 5 mins and it is super simple to do.

I have used simple green before on my glocks.. it works well.

I used this stuff years ago as an engine parts degreaser. It's a strong-enough solvent that it will de-fat your skin, but it's non-flammable, won't damage plastics, and readily dissolves in cold water. You DO have to be sure and spray the parts with some sort of oil after rinsing, because they'll rust very quickly otherwise.
