What do you feed yours?

I might have missed a thread so, sorry if this has been asked before.

I misspoke on the other thread from a few minutes ago. it was hollow point silver bear with the aluminum shells that I fired before. I ran 26 of the 50 and held off on teh rest for carry purposes. About one in 5 would jam, but I think it was either me, or the fact that the p-64 was bone dry ( so was my ruger and it had a simolar problem, which I never had with that one before)

I don't mind a less than perfect range ammo, since it tends to give good 'tap and rack' practice, but for carry I would prefer brass shells.

What do you feed yours? How well does it work?

MFS, Nimrod, Silver Bear, CCI all without an issue. The only problem I've had with any feeding at all was with a new mag.

I haven't fired WOLF and I just won't take the chance. I hear too much not nice stuff about their QC.

Hello steelblade,

Pardon me but I think you have your ammo crossed? CCI (Blount) made varieties of 9x18 with aluminum casings, and still makes a 95-grain "TMJ" (FMJ) round. The Silver Bear round is currently made with a zinc plated steel case; their older rounds were nickel plated.

That's just a technicality.

For plinking ammo (that can also be considered serious carry rounds) there is a wide variety of steel-cased ammunition available that will feed well in the P-64. Such rounds as Norinco (Chinese) that's available on Gunbroker or Auction Arms; the new Barnaul on Wideners; the Wolf "Military Classic" - also on Wideners, and the latest variations of Silver Bear available from several internet vendors.

For brass-cased ammo my standard has been Sellier & Bellot but all brass cased ammo is spendy. AIM has the new Prvi Partisan. American manufacturers, such as Hornady and Federal (American Eagle) are really spendy, but Georgia Arms makes a round similar to Hornady's with the XTP bullet at a much lower cost. A little known brass-cased round comes from Kinetics Research, available from Ammo Direct.

Hope that helps. There is not really any 9x18 ammo available now days that won't feed in the P-64. There used to be some wilder loads -> 115 and 120-grain bullets - that would not be recommended but pretty much the stuff currently for sale will work.

The bought ammo I shoot in mine is MFS I like it because of its diameter bullet (363) it feeds great in my BR-61's and my PA-63's it also works great in my P-64's , CZ-82's I also reload the brass cases when I can find them , I load them with a 100 grn hard cast lead round nose bullet sized to 363 and that's the one I carry .
I like to try the PARTIZAN 93 grn but don't want to buy 500 rounds of it and found out the diameter of the bullet is 364 and won't work in my BR=61's

Hello , I am curious as to what MFS stands for?
I just tried some Barnaul for the first time in the 7.62x39 cal. , and it shot very nice groups , so I will be anxious to see how the Barnaul 9x18 mak Ammo will work ! I was very impressed with it !
I also shoot the S&B which i then re-load the cases with 90-95 gr. hollow points. The hornady is less accurate in my opinion, but the brass reloads very well and my reloads are far more accurate than the factory Hornady Ammo. The silver bear is ok . Of course i enjoy shooting the P-64 so much that i'd like to try EVERY manufacterer's brands i can get my hands on !

Here ,again, I will refer again to Nbender's Ammo test compilation , where you can make a better educated decision. Try reading thru this great info:

Norm, Thank you sir ! What dealer is that from? That price is hard to beat ! I wish there was exact load info (such as: powder types/primers used in each manufacterer's loads ) So I could reload exactly ,according to specific brand data ! HMMMM... I wonder...
