Mag drought?

Having not seen any p64 magazines online for awhile I figured the next most likely place to find one would be a rather large gun show today.

"Nope."
"Sorry."
"Haven't seen them for awhile."
"Well, I had one somewhere but I must have sold it."
"Maybe this Bersa Thunder will work."
"What's a p64?"

Yep, it's tough to find them. All replies sound familiar. However, BERSA mag(s) will NOT fit. I tried with mine. Nope.

This must be new, I bought some 4 months ago, no problem.

Could be a recent phenomenon... I've only had my p64 for a few months.

Besides GunBroker and luck, http://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/P64-c202.htm was the place I found some. Had new and used at $28 and $21, respectively (I think). I'm sure there are others but I have enough so don't look anymore.

I bought one from them a couple of years ago, works great.

^ The metal in those is junk and too thin. Yes, they work for the most part, but after firing a few boxes through them you can see dents from the other bullets in the mag, where they struck the tube from the recoil of the top bullet being fired. The feed lips also deform over time, making the mags harder to insert (since they spread out).

For casual range use they are OK, but I can't say I recommend them for EDC. "Hold on while I squeeze these feed lips back together so I can shoot you" isn't going to work out real well.

Is this your personal experience? If so, how many rounds before you noticed a problem?

Maybe a half dozen boxes total through 2 mags. I noticed the bullet impressions/dents after the first range trip. The feed lip issue started almost immediately as well. It also doesn't reliably hand-cycle with these mags (again, due to the feed lips), although admittedly it's never had an FTE or chambering issues during live firing.

Thanks for the input. I was considering one because of the low price point and ready availability but think I'll wait to find an original. I see them on ebay but I'm really not in a hurry. I have two factory mags already and I suppose it takes just as long to load two of them ten times as it does to load ten of them twice.
