Were we just unlucky?

Post by jebbh » February 28th, 2015, 2:01 am

Having heard so many good things, my pal & I bought P-64s from J&G. My trigger doesn't always reset and he had worse problem. Pistol was well cleaned. After last round slide locked back and was hard frozen. We noticed trigger pin had walked out & the head of pin on left side might be binding on slide. we tapped that enough to clear pin to no result. Took off grips and tried to manipulate trigger bar and disconnector. Nothing works, it it motionless hard frozen. We ended up removing trigger pin to no avail. I guess we will just disassemble it as much as possible hoping to get to the source.
Any ideas?
I had heard that these were more powerful, more reliable, more accurate and less expensive than PPK. I want to believe that but my Makarov is looking a lot better since it never malfunctions.

Sorry to hear about your plight. I think you got a lemon.

I ordered one from AIM recently, figured I'd get one before they were all gone. Was afraid I'd get a bottom-of-the-barrel gun, but it was almost perfect.

In addition, it's built like a tank and is extremely accurate. It's not as pretty as my PPK/S but it is, in many ways, a better pistol.

I'd recommend calling J&G and see if you can get an exchange.

I have not had a good experience with J&G on anything but ammo (kinda hard to screw up ammo). The magazines I have ordered for surplus firearms from J&G ended up being cheap Chinese copies that were total junk and didn't work, and the one firearm I got from them (a Mosin Nagant 91/30 hex receiver) looked like they spray painted parts of it (the "bluing" was just flaking off).

They have great customer service, though. My returns were full refunds, and they even sent me shipping labels for the returns so I was out nothing.

Once in a while, they have a good deal on ammo. I limit my purchases to just that with them now.

On the other hand, I just got a P64 from AIM today. It's in amazing condition....almost unused except if I look closely, I can see the bluing around the front of the slide is ever slightly worn if I hold it to the light just right so I know it was taken out of and put in a holster at least a few times in this LEO's life, lol. Just with all P64's the double action is horrendous, so I ordered some replacement springs from Wolff springs tonight.

You get 2 magazines from AIM, and an original cleaning rod (which wasn't advertised on their site).

The handle of the P-64 cleaning rod seems to be a multi-function tool of some sort. One end is a screwdriver for the grip panels. I haven't figured out yet what the other end is for.

I wondered about that, too. I think it might be a little pin to push the mag spring back in to disassemble the magazines. Not sure, but maybe. I might try it when I get around to doing the mags.
