PPU case ruptures

Post by jlr2267 »

Had a nasty case rupture today at the range. Luckily, no one was hurt, but I got a good blast of burning powder in my face. I have since read here where others have had issues with this stuff (PPU brass...wish I'd known before!).

Just posting this as a warning to others. I would not use this ammo in the p64. I will try to post a pic.

Wow. It's usually what I shoot. Thanks for the warning. I would suppose this happens to all brands on occasion.

PPU is supposed to be one of the top brands of 9X18 ammunition. Hopefully just a freak occurrence.

Based on what I have read on this forum, it happens more often with this brand in the P64 due to the unsupported region of the chamber (where the feed ramp blends into the chamber.

I'm sure this ammo is fine for most uses, but I won't shoot it in the P64 again.

Search the forum and you will see other occurrences.

I think the evidence supports the OP; I, too, have seen the various threads about the bulged PPU cases.

Silver Bear works great, and the steel cases are probably much stronger than brass (they are still plated to make them slick and not as wear inducing) ;)
