Hello everybody. I just joined and this is my first post. My dad bought 2 P64's and a FEG PA63 at a gun show for $75 each about 3 years ago. He gave me and my brother each a P64. I put mine in my safe and forgot about it. I was showing my brother my new Ruger SR9c when he pulled out his P64 and told me what a great gun it is and that the P64 was all he would ever carry. So I dug mine out and discovered he is right! It is a well-made and accurate gun. Today I've ordered some Wolf springs and some Marschal grips. I did have one problem when I shot it for the first time today. The recoil causes the safety lever to partially flop the safe position. I have to occasionally reset the safety to fire subsequent shots.
Has anybody else seen this? Is there a known fix? Any advice is appreciated.

I agree with everything else you said very accurate, very reliable, very concealable, etc.....

This is a problem that has been addressed before. The likely cause is some bubba attempt to smooth out the safety action, or just worn parts.

You'd want to check you safety detent, and safety spring to make sure; 1) The detent has not been flattened to much. You can fix this by sharpening the detent. 2) The spring has not been shortened to much. Might need to order a new spring.

I think there is another good one about this around here that has good pics too, but it eluding me. I'm sure someone else know where it is.

Very useful links for the in the "Official Manual + Disassembly + Documents" and "Sticky Book" of this forum. Plus if you search around the are a few very good videos that users have posted.

Parts are available for these. Some in the U.S., but more from gentlemen in Poland. There is one gentleman from Poland (laukart) that I've ordered both the questionable parts (safety detent & spring) from (for spares), takes some waiting for shipping but you get genuine correct parts.

Has it been cleaned of the casmoline it was shipped in? Could be crud in the detent spring that hasn't been cleaned out yet..

thank you all for your excellent help. I installed my new Wolff springs tonight and this is what I found. The internals were gummed up with tar. When I pulled the safety out, the firing pin shot out but not the the safety dentent/spring (item 32 & 33). I extracted the detent spring and found it to be kinked. Also, it appears that the cone is worn down on the detent pin. See the photo and see if you agree.

The tar is probably dried up cosmoline or oil.

Had that on a 1942 Hi-power once that felt like sap thru out the whole pistol when I tore it down.

Keroseane cleaned it up in no time.

Hey Bama Mike, a fellow Alabamian here...happy to have ya on boared brother! My P-64, Betty, is my lone carry piece. She's small, accurate, dependable, and oh so cool. I prefer a handgun without major pieces made of plastic.

Everyone thinks she's a Walther PPK/s, I've yet to meet a man who knew what a Polish Radom P-64 was. Most are very excited to see it for themselves.

Pleased to meet you Dixie. Yep the P-64 is a great carry gun. I was carrying a Ruger LCP (.380) until I recently re-discovered this little gem in my safe. The P-64 is heavier than the LCP, but it just looks and feels more like a real gun. Personally, I only know of two other people who own a P-64 in this sate. Are you Byron or Bill? LOL!

Haha, no sorry. The P-64 is certainly a rarity item. I usually go to the Gun Shows that come through Montgomery, mostly to browse current prices and look at WWII collectables. Sometimes though I'll get to asking about something I need, like a specific mag or grips etc.

I was looking for some P-64 mags last time. I went to every booth that looked like they could help, but not one person had any. In fact, only one group even knew what I was talking about. Everyone has heard of a P-64, but no one has ever seen one.

Hey Guys, there are at least 3 in the Yellowhammer State.

Welcome from the neighboring state of GA. I had the opposite problem (safety too stiff), and was careful not to go "too far", in loosening it up. Mine is now easier to disengage but has never engaged while shooting. Hope you get yours just right!
