Hey guys. I'm excited to say I'm ordering my p64 today! I want to go ahead and get some wolff springs, extended mag release, and possibly some grips for it since I'll have to take it apart and clean the cosmoline off it. I plan to make it my daily carry with my p32 as a backup. I was just wonder what springs is everyone using for the recoil/hammer springs? I'll buy the variety pack but just wondering which one tostart to put in it. Sorry im sure this has been answered numerous times.

I have the 18 pound hammer spring, and the 22 pound recoil. It makes a big difference!

The 22 pound recoil spring works well. However I'd recommend that you get the Hammer spring pak. (Reduced Power 18, 19, & 20 Lb). I put in the 18 pounder and it works great. But on some P-64s people have reported light strikes with the 17 and 18 Lb springs. So with the pak you can adjust if needed.

Also one little side note; Wolff says they fixed the problem with the recoil springs. But if you happen to get old/new stock there may be some fitting required. Once you've put the new recoil spring on, if you feel any resistance placing the slide back on the frame, don't do it. I made that mistake and had a hell of a time getting the slide back off.

If you get one of the "unmodified" Wolff return springs, you only need to file/grind the end coils to a flat surface to make them work just fine. That's what I did w/mine. Just work slowly & don't overdo it. HTH.

It's really easy. You can just follow the instructions on the "fixes" section from the main page. The only issue is that it might take you several tries to get enough pressure on the spring when you're putting the magazine release back in place. Though, I'd say some punches (there's a link off the "fixes" page for some) are definitely a necessity for doing it.

Mine functioned perfectly as it came.
Installed Wolff 22lb recoil spring and 18lb hammer spring (with ends slightly flattened) it started dropping the magazine on last round fired and slide does not lock back when empty (as the mag had dropped). With Silver Bear, Brown Bear & Blazer 9x18.

Have replaced the 18lb hammer spring with the 20lb in pack and waiting for rain to stop to see if that fixes it. Will advise as soon as I can try it again.

Same on this end, I use the 18 lb. hammer spring and the 22lb. recoil spring. I bought the calibration pack from Wolf and mine was the old stock. After installing the 22lb. recoil spring I like to never got the slide back off. My grip just isn't what it used to be and I had one of the boys put it on in the first place so I gave it to him and he too could barely get the slide off. Using some of the excellent information from this board I ground both ends of the spring flat. Once that was done it went together and came apart perfectly. Neither the 18lb. or 20llb. springs exhibited this issue, just the 22lb. The 18lb. trigger spring is still a little stiff on mine but, having been strictly a revolver man all my life until I found this reliable, well made auto pistol ( I carried a revolver all during my 20+ years on the police dept. because I just didn't trust the auto loaders then) It's natural for me to cock the weapon as I draw it from my holster, so the stiff trigger is not an issue for me. The 17lb. spring that I purchased separately, did result in some light strikes and the occasional misfire so I went back to the 18lb. Since then I have experienced only one failure to feed and I believe I've shot every kind of ammo available for this weapon. The one thing to keep in mind is that about 90% of the misfires or stoppages associated with this weapon are the result of poor maintenance. Clean and lightly oil it EVERY time you fire it and it will be a reliable carry piece. One more piece of advice that I have learned, clean the magazine every time as well. Remove the floor plate the spring and the follower and clean them, especially the inside of the magazine. Failure to do that is what caused the one and only failure to feed I ever had. It's a bit more work than maintaining my old revolvers which you could pretty much throw in a mud puddle, pick up and use, but when your life might depend on your weapon going boom several times, it's really not that much effort. Enjoy your P 64. properly maintained it will bring you years of good shooting (provided of course we can stop our government from continuing to cause the artificial ammo shortage we are currently experiencing) but that's a discussion for another place and time. ^ Thanks for your service in the PD, I really wish there were more folks like you out there. While there are many honorable folks in the PDs across the country, I've run into several that fit the "bully with a badge" description to a T.

I once had to wait for a funeral procession with a police escort (and I waited patiently, was in no hurry) to leave a parking lot; one of the policemen directing traffic motioned for me to proceed, and as I did, his partner turned around (was directing traffic from the other direction) and started yelling all sorts of obscenities at me, threatening to have me arrested and my license suspended, blah blah blah. Fortunately the other policeman stepped in and calmed him down, assuring him that he had directed me to proceed....but seriously, with that attitude, no wonder people mistrust the cops. I was just visiting my parents from out of state and getting them some groceries.

Anyway, 18 lbs hammer/main, 20 lbs slide/recoil. Felt no real difference with the 17 hammer in either DA trigger pull nor any other issues, so opted for the stiffer spring for harder primer strikes, and to avoid the mag drop-out issue some have observed.

Thanks for your expression of appreciation of my service. You are right, today there are a few assholes out there and it seemed to me that it got worse after 9/11 with the passage of the so called "Patriot Act". I know more than a few guys, mostly the younger ones, that thought it gave them the right to trample people's constitutional rights with impunity. I spent my career treating people the way that I would want to be treated if the roles were reversed. I'm sorry you had a bad experience but we have to hire from the human race and you get all kinds just like you do in the general population. It is now, and has been for many years, my opinion, that we're inching closer and closer to a police state and, while people might think they wanted the added security, when it's turned against them their opinions change pretty quick.
