Slide finish color

Post by hunter316 »

I recently purchased a P64, and the slide finish is a deep reddish color. I've seen other P64s, but none have this color. Any thoughts on this?

Welcome to the forum.

The plum color is due to the bluing solution not being correct, I have a Luger with a plum receiver and a Mosin 91/30 with one side of the mag being plum.

Can you post pics, would love to see it.

My 1970 has an "off blue" slide. The-- 9mm ,,P-64" --stamp is also larger along with the circle 11, year, and serial number as shown in the photo. I thought this looked odd, so i pulled out some others and the font size is larger by about one and a half to two font sizes. Other ones looked kinda larger and kinda different, maybe the stamping depth and angle , but this one is larger.

Interesting... I'll see if I can't get some decent photos of it tonight. Based on the photo above, it looks similar to yours, Mr. Machined. Mine is a 1976, and while the grips are rough, doesn't look to have much wear.

Here we go. Not the best photo in the world, but it's a decent representation of the reddish color. Perhaps more of a rust color rather than a plum color.

I said "rust colored" as color reference only. The thing looks to be in good shape. No pitting/rusting on it. I'd like to get new wooden grips for it, but I'm not quite ready to drop $80 on them. Was thinking about maybe finding a 3-D printer and getting aluminum grips.
