1971 Model

Post by P64inDixie »

What are the most sought after model years for the P-64? Mine is a 1971 and is absolutely beautiful, with lots of crisp proof stamps.

Don't know, but the latter models (after 72) I believe had a larger triangular hammer. I think that there is very little difference in price between the years.

Yes, a 64 P-64 would be nice. I am slowly filling in the 1964 to 1977 years. I like the early round hammer models, especial the ones that have a 60's date.

I prefer the early round hammers (partial to the 60's), too! I like the P-64 model's compactness and accuracy enough to try and collect every model year as well!

I have four as of now: two (2) 1969s, a 1967, and a 1974 (the only one of which has a non-round hammer).

I absolutely LOVE them! 8)

I'm a '71 model. That would be a highly sought after year for me.

'76 and "kinda mint-ish". Really like mine after I changed the springs & modified the safety spring. Next(maybe?) better grips.
"Jeez, Tommy, don't you believe in anything?
Yeah, I believe in ammo. As much as I can carry."

how do you tell if it is mint or not? My '71 looks to be in unissued condition. Got it from ClassicFirearms.com and payed the additional $10 for hand select.

If it has no finish or barrell wear it would be minty.

the only wear on my '71 is a little bit of blueing worn off around the end from what I assume is holdster rub. She's a beauty though, my dream carry piece. She never leaves my side, ever.

The safety works fine...had to replace the hammer spring and do some deburring/polishing on the trigger mechanism to get a usable double-action...the recoil spring didn't seem to change anything, other than make it easier to remove and re-install the spring since it slips over the barrel more easily.
