mpa protector 380

Post by turbocat »

does any one have any experience with the masterpiece arms protector 380. i'm considering one. it is said the recoil is brutal, which is subjective. since some consider the p-64 to be brutal, i want to compare them. i don't consider the p-64 to be brutal at all, so if the mpa is a little more so, i think i could handle it. thx

5 shot test @ 5 ft.

944 fps- cci stinger- 32gr. h.p. - beretta 21a bobcat----.22lr
827 fps- remington golden- 40gr. rn- beretta 21a bobcat---.22lr
886 fps- wolf mil. classic- 95gr. fmj - polish p-64---9x18 makarov
1094 fps- federal- 115gr. jhp- kahr cw9---9mm
848 fps-remington- 95gr. fmj. -ruger lcp---.380acp
756 fps- remington- 95gr. fmj - masterpiece arms protector---.380acp
758 fps - winchester white box--95gr fmj-masterpiece arms protector---.380acp
i had my chrony and recorded the above. i did not have it when i shot the pmc brand.

i had a good session with this masterpiece arms protector in .380. i’ll try to cover some points of interest.

function- i started with 100 rnds of remington 95 gr round nose fmj. the first shot fired fine, but the empty case got caught in the slide. cleared that and chambered the second one. it fired and ejected the empty case fine, but did not chamber the third round. when the second round was chambered, the third round was stuck and the spring did not push it up. i unloaded the mag and used an ice cream stick to cycle the spring up and down about fifty times. re-loaded and shot the remaining 98 rounds without a hick-up. this morning i bought 100 rnds of winchester white box 95gr fmj. they are flat nosed. i shot 50 with 7 jams; a few times it never fully returned to battery. my buddy, with his lcp let me have 10 rnds of federal jhp. they fired fine. this afternoon i bought 50 rounds of pmc bronze 90gr fmj. i fired 44 of those just fine, and kept 6 to keep in the pistol. it apparently does not like flat nosed ammo.

recoil- less than our p-64; my buddy’s wife said it was some less than the lcp. i agree. the ported barrel?

accuracy- at 10 yards, it is around 3 inches. not bad for 2.25in. barrel.

it feels good to my hand, and points really good. about 95% of my pistol shooting is un-aimed, point and shoot. at 7 yds it was pretty easy to keep the fast shots on a 6in paper plate.

i like the second strike feature.

it comes with a pocket holster, a flat mag end plate, an extra mag spring that’s a little stronger, and , of course, a trigger lock.
