I have seen on other sites folks argue about how to safely store ammo. I for one am now a true believer in vacuum sealing my ammo if stored in my basement.

This past week our city's sewer flooded most of our homes in Berea, Ohio and the only things that were safe/untouched by sewer were all my rounds that I sealed a few weeks ago. .40, 9mm, 9x18 etc.

Do you out a pack of desiccant in before you seal?
This is the method I am familiar with in shipping moisture sensitive
electronic components.

Even without dessicant or oxygen-scavenging additives, vacuum sealing is a good way to store ammunition. The ammo may absorb some water or oxygen from whatever atmosphere remains in the bag (which isn't much, since it was sucked out to create the vacuum), but ammo can tolerate a little bit of contamination better than some other products can. As long as the bags remain sealed no new contamination can be introduced. That's why "spam cans" of milsurp ammo are still viable decades later.

Sounds like a good idea, and I don't believe it costs all that much for the equipment. I like the thought of throwing some dessicant in the bag as well. :D
