Silver Bear Ammo

Post by redfestiva »

I'm a new P-64 owner and I bought 100 rounds of Silver Bear 9 x18 makarov at a gun show today. They were $8.00 /50rds. Locally they run $10 or $11/50rds. Do you guys find that the Silver Bear feeds alright generally? They had Silver Bear hollow point also for $9/50rds. Any trouble with the hollow points?
By the way the gun show was north of Cinncinnati. I saw 2 P-64's at the show for $159 each (one magazine)

I shoot the Siver Bear 94 grain hollowpoints and they are fine in my P-64s, PA-63 and Maks. No problems with them at all. I get them at AIM Surplus online for $130 + $12 shipping per 1,000 rounds.

500+ rounds of Silver Bear 94 grain HP and very few if any FTFs.

I like it more than Wolf (seems to have cleaner burning powder)

+1 on AIM Surplus http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/9X18_Makarov.html at $6.95 per box or $130/1000.

Which Silver Bear, 94gr Barnaul, 115gr LVE, or 120grLVE? It's probably the 94gr Barnaul, and that will work fine in your P-64.

Sigh ... remember when 9x18 was $99/1,000 rounds, and on a good day that was with shipping included? The price of ammo sure went up in the last year. And 9x18 has become relatively expensive. It used to be a lot cheaper than 9x19 (Luger) and 9x17 (.380).

Actually, you could buy a case for $89 when I first started buying 9x18.

After testing a box of Barnaul 94gr. HP ammo, I decided to use it instead of the much more expensive Hornady ammo for PD. It is very accurate in my P-64.

I've had good success with Silver Bear FMJ and JHP in my P64 and PA-83, although I have had a couple of FTF with teh JHP in the pa-63. Shoots straight and clean and not nearly as much recoil as some old Russian surplus I had. I got mine for $5.50 a box from this place.

Hey threepdr.
That's a great price for ammo ($5.50/box). Can you tell me what they charged you for shipping?

Redfestiva,

It has been a couple of months since I ordered, so I can't remember for sure, but it was not unreasonable. It seems it was about the same postage amount when I have ordered from other dealers.
