Is there a reason for the heavy DA pull?

rinao272,

Yep, we know this answer! One of our Forum members from Poland let us know. When the P-64 was designed, they were using submachine gum ammunition and they had HARD PRIMERS. To get consistant ignition, the ammo required a hard Hammer hit. Thus, they used a heavy Hammer Spring. Since we don't have that problem now, the 16# Walther Spring will work fine in the pistol and we can get consistant ignition them, and it helps greatly with the DA pull.

Also traditionally military pistols have everything a little harder to operate since the pistol traditionally is a firearm of last resort. No need to have a light DA hammer going off while crawling around..

mongo,

Another good point yu made indeed!

I have collected P.38 pistols for a number of years and the DA pull is not "commercial" quality, but it is great for a mIlitary pistol. You will have folks on Forums that blast the DA pull on the P.38, but they can't understand it is a military pistol that is used by soldiers that are not firearms experts.
