I've got a couple of P83's. One is a "Special Edition" and the other is the military version. In order to get them about 10 years ago, you had to be willing to shell out about $240 each. Only people with wisdom like me were willing to do so when you could get Bulgarian Makarovs for $125 and East German Makarovs for $150. ;D Seriously, I had to have them for my 9x18 collection. I'm glad that I purchased them. I suspect that we'll see a bunch of them dumped on the US market in the near future. Since Poland has joined NATO, they'll need to do something with their 9x18 chambered pistols. Here's a picture of one:

I would like to see these pistol come into the US too! I just hope Poland does not get "politically correct" because the UN is calling for all countries to destroy their obsolete weapons. I hope Poland relalizes they can make a little money by selling to us guys!

Bret,

I just picked up a P-83 the same as the one pictured by you above. It came in a red plastic case with a clear cover.

The slide on my new pistol looks like the special eagle version and the hammer looks like the military version. Which version is pictured above in your post?

I checked on the web and the eagle version has adjustable sites. I don't think mine has those. I think I have a commercial marked, but military version. Looks like that is what is in your picture. Let me know if you get a chance!

CZ told makarov.com that they would not make any more of the polygonal 9x18 barrels. The tooling is shot and they don't want to re-invest in new setups. These CZ 83s that mak.com is getting are the last ones that CZ will make in 9x18. And the 83s in .380 will have a very limited choice of finishes.

And I think that mak.com sold all the 9x18s by pre-order, but check their website.

Nbender,

Thanks for the information about the CZ-83 stuff. I have a CZ-82. Sounds like the barrel I have will have to last!

However, I was curious about a P-83 Vanad which is a Radom/VB pistol.

I visited Mak dot com yesterday and they had 2 CZ-83 9x18's left.
