Re: P64 slam fire question

This really seems like a no-brainer, IMO. Something sticks, slide doesn't always return to battery, etc. - simple stuff. Forum (FREE, get what you pay for advice) probably good place to ask for help. Gun goes into full-auto? FIND A COMPETENT GUNSMITH ASAP! You already shot yourself!!! What m...

Re: Surplus P64 9x18 6rnd magazine

For what it's worth, I bought 3 pistols (at first...) - one for me and one each for my 2 grandsons. (Whose got the coolest grandpa in the world?!?! ) I got 1 - 1977, 1 - 1975 and 1 - 1968. All accompanied by 2 mags. Needless to say, when we have P64 day at the range, the mags get mixed up....

Re: my p64 has a light da pull since i bought it

The hammer spring I installed is a 17#. This old fish scale I used is not the best choice for measuring the Double Action. I'd agree with that! The weight of the spring is generally pretty close to what your DA pull will be. I had one with a 17# spring and experienced some light strikes. Went back ...

Re: my p64 has a light da pull since i bought it

I just did a Wolff spring up grade on mine. the da pull is around 7 to 8 pounds ... What spring did you use?!?! The lightest Wolff hammer spring is 17# (which isn't popular as it can sometimes result in light strikes) but a 7-8 lb. pull seems WAAAAAAAY too low. 16-17 might happen but I'm ot...

Re: my p64 has a light da pull since i bought it

The original trigger spring with the ultra-high 28+# pull is a thick, black wire. Newer, lighter (as in the Wolff springs, at least) are a thinner wire and more silvery in color. You can easily see the spring if you take the grips off. This might give you a clue. See what's there, I suppose anything...

Re: Soft rubber grips

Looks good, but I like the original for EDC. I just like the look of the pistol in its original condition. The OEM grips look good, IMO, and the shiny plastic is a cool look. BUT ..... took my P64 with the new ver .05 grips out today and they are a WINNER!!! Soften recoil, add diameter for grip, pa...

Re: Soft rubber grips

I think you'll be happy. The Ver.05 grips are Russ's best effort to date. And that's saying something because he's worked tirelessly to bring us a comfortable grip for these neat little pistols that can be a recoil nightmare at times! The OEM grips are OK but these molded grips are, IMO, 100% better...

Re: P64 slam fire question

That's HORRIBLE!!! I am sorry to hear of this and I would DEFINITELY seek the services of a competent gunsmith ASAP! Simple problems/fixes are the realm of these (free) forums. Shooting yourself in the hand would, IMO, require professional, hands-on repairs. I know I would.

Re: Questioning the FBI 12" - 18" Penetration Standard

I think the better the penetration, the better for you but I don't think that's the be-all, end-all. I've seen my share of these discussions and while penetration is great, ACCURACY is your friend! If you're loaded-out with some hi-power, HP, +P kill-all ammo with 20" penetration but you miss -...

Re: P-64's available,differences?

With exception of holster wear/condition, and age (rounded hammer/angled hammer) the pistols are pretty much same. If you changed the hammer in a pistol in good shape you'd pretty much cancel that out. Except for roll-mark date on gun itself. You mostly can't go wrong ....

Re: Just got a P-64, very nice weapon

I did find the front sight difficult to see between the lighting at the range, and the targets I was using. I think I may put a bit of yellow nail polish on the back of the front blade so I can see it better in that TINY notch. 'Zactly what I did. Bright yellow nail polish I saw at Walmart. VERY vi...

Re: FTF on first shot in full magazine

Curly they did make a commercial double stack Mak. So care must be used if ordering mag springs for Maks. That must be the one I got the mag springs for. Those things were 2-3 times as large as a P64 spring AND it was marked "Makarov" on the Wolff site. That's what I get for assuming .......

Re: Polish Iron v.05 grip replacement.

Russ, I'll be honest with you, mine looks like the image in photo #0231 the pistol on the right. There's a slight gap but upon running my finger across/over it it feels smooth/seamless. The pistol I used is a 1975 model. I was probably gonna buy another v0.5 grip from you anyway after letting my rec...

Re: FTF on first shot in full magazine

Are the Makarov magazines double-stack or staggered? Not single stack like the P64? I have no idea but from the size I'd have to presume the mag they fit would be a double stack. Like I said, they reminded me of the sprinngs in my Glock double-dtack mags. Also got this: Thank you for your email and...

Re: FTF on first shot in full magazine

I could've sworn I saw a tutorial here on how to trim the Makarov mag spring down to size for the P64 mags. Unless it was a different 'Makarov' spring than the ones I got, I'd say a definite NO WAY! Maybe some other type that was close, but the Mak spring pack I got from Wolff was about 7" lon...
