Carefully, with calipers if you can, compare the width of the gap between feed lips, front AND rear, with the 'good' mag. Sounds like it may have been dropped and the lips bent.

Take the slide off your P-64 or your Mak, put a loaded mag in, and notice how the top round is just a little below "co-axial" with the chamber. Compare this with a few others and you'll notice that the top round is further down and the feed ramp is much steeper. My Mak will usually chamber...

After some thought, I agree with saands comment about NOT cutting a coil at a time and going one more for good measure. If you can get it together, you've got the thickness of the slide stop lug as a margin.

After some thought: If the mainspring change affects slide behavior in recoil, would we expect to see the brass from a SA first shot fly somewhat differently than subsequent shots? Has anyone moticed this? I'm going to get somebody to watch carefully next time I'm at the outdoor range.
