On mine at least that rusty, reddish looking tint comes from the flash. I use a good light
stand and turn the flash off on the camera and the "rust" goes away. Just a thought.

Re: spring question
Do you have to change the recoil spring when you change the main/hammer spring have a lighter DA trigger pull? Welcome to the forum. The recoil spring has nothing to do with the amount of force necessary to pull the trigger. Some say a heavier recoil spring reduces felt recoil. Personally I've ran ...

Re: Slide releasing when I push the Magazine release
I have found a lot of great information about my P-64 here I appreciate it. Recently while cleaning the pistol I notice that the slide will sometimes release when I push the magazine release. Anyone have any idea what is causing this? Does this make the pistol unsafe to take to the Range? Any opini...

Re: P 64 on TV
Yep I've noticed but then again it seems like every show you see nowadays has one agenda or another or it's so insanely stupid you can't make yourself watch it. If it's not gun control, it's global (Fill in the blank), and if it's neither of those it's abortion. It seems like you can't win.

P 64 on TV
Was watching Law and Order Criminal Intent season 6 episode 9 last night on Netflix. Anyway in one scene the female policeman, Det. Erbb I believe, after having been shot at by at least a thousand rounds of ammo, tells her captain what types of weapons the bad guys were using were using and she ment...

Re: Does anyone find that wearing gloves helps with web bite
Weasel, Yep, I looked at it again and I see what you mean. Whenever you hear the word "bite' around here someone's heading for the first aid kit  Those sleeves are kind of nice, they cushion it a little and the finger grooves in the front help with you aim too. The down side to them is t...

Re: Does anyone find that wearing gloves helps with web bite
vistula, If you're getting "web bite" then you need to work on your grip. If you can, have someone with a good camera or a cell phone with a good camera in it, take a video, the more resolution the better, of you shooting the gun. Fire one magazine and then transfer the video to your compu...

Re: Replacing the grips after field stripping...
Smailman, Sir I will have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. Firearms are designed to be field striped and the only thing "accelerating the wear" is continually firing a dirty gun. You're letting yourself in for failures to feed and extract at the very least. Guns were designed...

Re: Replacing the grips after field stripping...
I remove mine every 3rd or 4th cleaning (I clean it every time I shoot it). I like to make sure the hammer spring assembly doesn't have any crud built up in the springs, and give it a drop or two of oil. Other than that no, I don't pull them off that much. I got to thinking about it and, if I recall...

Yes, sorry, I meant hammer spring.tai wrote:wlockridge wrote:

For benefit of newbies and myself, I thought this was perhaps a typo, and you were referring to 18# hammer spring/mainspring.

Re: Replacing the grips after field stripping...
Yeah, what Gary said :D . I find both my original as well as my custom grips somewhat of a bear to get back on. I usually just mess with it until it snaps in. I find that getting both grips on correctly prior to sticking the screw in it helps. I've heard of people sanding down the edges on the insid...

Re: Trigger Pull
When the P64 was originally manufactured, the ammunition available at the time, was also used in their sub-machine gun(s). Therefore the primer caps were made of very hard material in order to solve a problem with slam-fires when that weapon was used in full auto mode. As I recall, that is the offic...

Re: p64 safety/decocker question
texasfish, welcome to the forum. If I understand your question correctly, no, it has two positions, on and off. When the decocker is in the down/safe position the trigger should be disabled, the firing pin locked, and the hammer blocked, when it's up (red dot showing) it's showtime. Break it down, l...

Re: New p-64 owner question
Thanks! Yes, the hammer cocking is very stiff. Since the double action seems tolerable, I'll start by changing the recoil spring, as that is a lot easier, and the recoil sounds like its a bit heavy with modern ammo. Its a 69 and i got it with 3 mags all in good shape. Best I can tell, all old style...
