Your Handgun Inventory

Redfestiva - Your post snuck in while I was composing mine (we're neighbors, springfield) I bought a HiPoint 9mm years ago, for perhaps the same reasons (curiosity and too inexpensive not to satisfy it?) It's a 'what you see is what you get' situation for that price. Reliable (mine was ammo particul...

Your Handgun Inventory

Sorry, but to respond with a complete list or pictures would expose my addiction more than I would want to admit. Let's just say.... 4 Makarov chamberings (all different), at least a dozen 'mouse guns', and I recently traded in 5 "safe queens" (AMT Backup 9, Accutek 9, Davis .22 Derringer,...

Won't fire DA with round chambered...

Trigger spring, not hammer spring. It's not a very strong spring, it's all the way to the front of the trigger bar, and so the disconnector has a real "leverage advantage" from all the way at the back of the bar. Before I super cleaned and polished the disconnector to stop my similar probl...

Won't fire DA with round chambered...

Assuming slide IS fully forward, this sounds very much like the disconnector is binding in the down (out of battery) condition. Why it only happens with something chambered is a bit of a mystery to me. Remove the right grip and you should be able to see the disconnectors bottom part pushing the trig...

Strength of platform - 9x18 verses 9mm luger

Sands has it correctly, IMHO. I once had two "compact" 9mm pistols, same round capacity, steel framed, and that weighed within an ounce of eachother. One blowback, one locked breech. With any reasonable performance ammo, one was a handful to shoot (it WAS small!) and the other (the blowbac...

We're on Law and Order!

Tonites episode had a massive shooting by a bunch of BGs at our heroes, who were doing a stakeout in an ice cream vendor's truck. The technicians collecting evidence reported (apparently from the shell casings) that one of the guns was a "Polish P - 64" and then someone else said "a m...

pow-r-ball ammo

Got to agree. For "smaller" calibers, shot placement is more important than fancy ballistics, and that means LOTS of shooting (way beyond the hundreds for reliability) and if you can't afford to do that with your 'wonder ammo', you may have a problem in the making and not know it until way...

My modified P-64

When I saw the earlier post, I KNEW it was gonna go down like this. I like guns. They are fun to shoot, fun to tinker with, and can be damn useful at certain times. In general, I like 'gun people', because we share a liking of guns. But when guns and politics start getting mixed up, I usually backpe...

Will not decock, broken

115grfmj: Others have reported breaking the safety, so I think this IS an issue. However, the breakage seems to be due to letting the hammer fall unrestrained. Perhaps carry a cushion strip of some kind, if you anticipate haveing to frequently de-cock? When the hammer is down, the safety will preven...

Will not decock, broken

Tell the seller that if they now have a 'parts gun' as a result of trading slides with you, there's a bunchof us here who'd like to buy it, all at once, or part by part. I have a friend who is desperate for an extractor. BTW, even a snap cap has its limits, IF you can find/make one. If I'm going to ...

Trigger does not engage.

Remove the slide and the right grip (unload first, of course!) You can see the top of the disconnector sticking up above the rail and its tail resting on the trigger bar. If things are dirty/gummy or there are burrs on the disconnector inside the frame, the trigger spring (which is not all that stro...

Makarov VS P-64 My Observations

I have a Mak, a P-63, a P-64, and since Saturday, a CZ-82! Gonna be really hard to decide a favorite! The CZ-82 is DA/SA. DA pull is very nice, wide smooth trigger. Safety is ambidex. and blocks the hammer from the pin (no hammer drop!) Mag release is where it belongs and is also ambidex. Put some 9...

P64 shooting stings my hand

I have some milsurp 9mm subgun/tracer ammo that will not fire in guns that shoot everything else, so there may be some basis for the 'harder primer' story. However, the amount of energy stored in the mainspring to fire the cartridge is the same in DA as in SA. The difference is where that energy com...

Holster fit

The Don Hume "JIT Slide" holster for the PPK is an almost perfect fit, perhaps a little tight at first, but wears in nicely. Priced in the mid $20's. I've found nothing better for the money.
