Re: Misfires with Silver Bear
Would field stripping it and soaking it in mineral oil do any good. Mineral spirits , not oil. (Think paint remover.) Mineral spirits dissolve oil and grease and helps release the dirt and grit that they trap. Soaking the gun, even just field stripped, allows the mineral spirits to penetrate. Follo...

Re: What were they thinking?
A disarmed civilian is outgunned by even a .380, so I imagine the Poles didn't feel much need to arm their police and military officers with anything a lot bigger. Of course their Russian friends were on hand to suggest a cartridge that was conveniently manufactured in Russia.

Re: Mystery 'chamber wear'
May not be too helpful with handguns... The trick I used with my mosin was to box the stock back in the box it arrived in surrounded by kitty litter, wrap that in black plastic and leave it in the hot sun, flipping every so often. (I have also heard of people stowing the boxed parts in a hot car.) ...

Ah, thanks. I'd heard of the technique but I didn't know there was a name for it.juniustaylor wrote:Hinermad:

Mozambique? I'm not familiar with that term. (Not as it applies to shooting, anyway.)

How about masonry nails? They're hardened. Finding one small enough might be a challenge though.lklawson wrote:The nail might not have enough carbon content to be hardenable. Not much call for "high carbon nails." Should be able to case-harden it though.

Re: What type/brand of ammo do you like to feed to your pist
You're very welcome. Outdoor ranges don't seem to care, but indoor ones are concerned with ricochets (...at least that what the range officer told me) Interesting. I'd heard that outdoor ranges in dry areas out west don't permit steel because they want to avoid sparking, which can cause brush fires...

Re: What type/brand of ammo do you like to feed to your pist
Gander Mtn is the last place I'd buy ammo from. But they do offer free shipping if you buy from the website and it seems to be a better deal as well, that is if they deliver to your state. Silver bears seem ok to me, just dirty. There's a Gander Mountain store near where I work and they have the 9m...

Re: What type/brand of ammo do you like to feed to your pist
I haven't had my pistol for very long, and so far I've only shot a couple boxes of Blazer 95 grain TMJ through it. So far I've had zero issues with it. No feed problems, no ejection problems (unless you count picking up cases ten yards away), and it's more accurate than I am. I do have one issue wit...

Re: Trigger won't reset?
Watched a youtube video the other evening. The feller on there said he accidently pulled the trigger when it was disassembled. He said it goofed up his trigger spring up inside the frame. He said after he got the spring reset correctly, it works fine. I did the same thing last week. The long post o...

Now all I have to do is find extra magazines.... I may have to break down and make some. That ought to be interesting. I've never done that before so it ought to be fun. Royal Tiger Imports has magazines for $25 apiece: http://www.royaltigerimports.com/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.product_detail...

Re: vacuum sealed ammo
Even without dessicant or oxygen-scavenging additives, vacuum sealing is a good way to store ammunition. The ammo may absorb some water or oxygen from whatever atmosphere remains in the bag (which isn't much, since it was sucked out to create the vacuum), but ammo can tolerate a little bit of contam...

From this co. tho, you will probably have to do business over the phone as there Internet service is not secure & will leave you open to theft. First hand knowledge of this. Knowing this now, it would not bother me to buy another one from them. The security certificate for their order page expi...

Re: T/C Hawken won't shoot roundballs???
Not a gunsmith, just guessing here. Has this rifle ever shot balls correctly as far as you know? Could there be a nick in the bore or muzzle that might cause the ball to spin differently? (I'd think that would affect a bullet too, but ball and bullet aerodynamics are somewhat different.) I just wond...

Re: Another new guy
Welcome from Canton Ohio!! Lots of Buckeyes here!! So I see. I guess we know a good gun deal when we see one. (grin) I live in upstate New York now, and it's harder to collect handguns here. (The paperwork is tedious.) I'm glad I found my P-64 at a local store instead of trying to buy one by mail. ...
