Re: the 41 Swiss Vetterli rifle

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I think it is beautiful. What a wonderful old rifle. Your are the lucky one to own it. Looks like it shoots like it was new and keep up the good work. More fun to own something like the Swiss 41 than to buy something new off the shelf and just shoot . I can'...

Re: Bulgarian Makarov

I have an EGerman Makarov and don't need two Maks and also have a P83 from Poland the replacement for the P64. Cost of ammo will be same as I reload about 95% of ammo I shoot. Cost to reload, .11 for bullet, .035 for Primer, .02 for powder I have tons of 9mm cases I can cut down so .17ea bullet, tim...

Bulgarian Makarov

I bought myself a Bulgarian Makarov tonight off of Gunbroker for $165 just couldn't turn it down. Going to take it and replace all the springs, firing pin, and barrel so I can have a new .380 ACP. I think all .380s are too little and I want a real combat gun. Will self load all the ammo I use in it ...

Re: Final Range 115gr.

The BB rounds were 4.2grs of something that looked like W231 but thats too much powder as when I chronographed the BB's they were right at 1000 fps also. I certainly wouldn't go there with W231 as I am satisfied now. Next project a good plinking load for 93gr Lfn from Missouri Casting. It takes a mi...

Re: W231 Makarov rounds

I did find one sweet spot for the gun it was 3.6grs of Unique but topped out at 865fps a little lower than I wanted. It would be great for a plinking or everyday messing around but I am looking for the defense load. I think I am about there with the 115gr but I wouldn't shoot it everyday after I fin...

Buffalo Bore Chronograph

Today I fired ten rounds of the Buffalo Bore 9 X 18 Mak 115grs and chronographed the results. The results were as follows: low 981 high 1026 avg 1006 + 5fps for 10' chrono space = 1010fps MV ES 45 SD 13 They all shot about 4" high at 25yds not bad grouping 4" to 5" most rounds two wer...

Re: Range Test with 116gr 9X18Mak bullet

Fired 16rds of 4.0 grs of Unique today and the results were very disappointing, bullet was very accurate at 25yds and brass was in good shape started to see a little flatning of the primers but not to much. The real disapointment was the fps was slower than the 3.8 and 3.9grs. 3.8 avg's 895fps and t...

Re: Range Test with 116gr 9X18Mak bullet

Thanks for the suggestion, I was using Unique and didn't think it was too bad. I was looking at using Power Pistol next but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Been playing with a 1874 Sharps and IMR4198. Too many guns that need shot and recorded isn't life fun.

Mak 116gr loads

Well I fired a whole gamut of 116gr loads starting at 3.0grs to 3.8grs of Unique and ended up with a I stopped at 3.8grs with a 895FS load. So I thought about it and loaded another load for 3.9grs and chronographed them and ended with the results of: Hi 929fps Low 863fps Avg 900fps SD 30fps ES 66fps...

Re: Loading the 9x18mm w/ Luger brass

I'm at 905fps with 3.8grs of Unique and a 116gr lfn. No leading, no stretching of brass, no primer problems of backing out. I am going to try one more load 3.9grs of Unique with the 116gr and stop there. 3.8grs if fairly snappy round 3.6grs is a good practive round fairly calm and the Mak really lik...

Re: Range Test with 116gr 9X18Mak bullet

It doesn't burn that dirty, what I am trying to do is get 950fps with the 116gr bullet and if I do it with Unique and it shoots well I will start with another pistol powder and start over to see what shoots the best and is the cleanest. The lower loads of Unique were kinda unstable but not bad, the ...
