Re: 1974 P-64 - Middle safety position

Many thanks Bill. There is an Autozone just down the road a bit. I was aware of the Lucas engine oil stabilizer and use it regularly but I wasn't aware of the assembly lube. I'll for sure get some before this weekend's range trip and I'll also work that safety some more with the Lucas in it and I'll...

Re: Replacement Wolff Recol Springs

Thanks PA-Joe, very glad to hear that. I wondered if it might ease up a little. The 17 probably won't get to me before this weekend so that will give me a range weekend to see what the 18/22 combo does. The slide is pretty stiff now with the new 22 recoil.

Re: 1974 P-64 - Middle safety position

Hi to all, I spent some time this afternoon changing springs, cleaning, oiling and observing. The flat ground (on both ends) 22 lb recoil spring is now installed and the 18 lb hammer spring is in too. Its much better than original but I went ahead today and ordered a 17 lb hammer spring to try it ou...

Re: Replacement Wolff Recol Springs

Thanks PA-Joe, the flat ground (on both ends) 22 lb recoil spring is installed and the 18 lb hammer spring is in too. Much better but I went ahead today and ordered a 17 lb hammer spring to try it out. So this weekend there should be several different combos to try if needed.

Re: 1974 P-64 - Middle safety position

Thanks keith150, wlockridge & gemini1 for your input. Keith150 - Thanks for the input on the 17 lb srping. I got my springs in yesterday and I had only the 18, 19 & 20 lb hammer springs. I just started another thead with spring questions. I went ahead and installed the 18 lb hammer spring to...

Replacement Wolff Recol Springs

Hi to all, and many thanks to all who have responded to my other thread that started off with safety questions. My Wolff replacement springs came in yesterday and I'm in the process of changing them today. The replacement hammer spring went in ok. I got the Wolff 3-pack with 18, 19 & 20 lb sprin...

Re: 1974 P-64 - Middle safety position

Thanks Curly1, did you do any mods to your safety other than oiling it well? I oiled mine well when I got it and it seems to be pretty easy to move the safety with the thumb as it is being drawn, but I haven't had it at the range yet to work on that. BTW, my wife is from Upstate too. She says "...

Re: 1974 P-64 - Middle safety position

Thanks Ketchman and Curly1 for your inputs. Ketchman, the holster I found in my local store is a Tagua OPH-720. The label says "Open Top Ult Concealment Holster S&W Bodyguard 380. Black R/H OPH-720" Its made of a stiff leather that is also soft if that makes any sense. It is a thick fi...

Re: 1974 P-64 - Middle safety position

Thanks Craig and thanks Ketchman. I grew up with revolvers and the DA pull was the only safety I knew back then. Its great to hear Ketchman say that the P-64 is being carried that way today. Before I ordered mine I ran across some other posts saying that folks said they were carrying the P-64 this w...

Re: 1974 P-64 - Middle safety position

Thanks Weasel640, and many thanks Curly1 for the welcome and the link to the other thread that discussed this. That thread explained it well. And many thanks to juniustaylor for the great detailed explanation. I purchased the P-64 to hopefully use it for ccw. I'd really like to hear from others who ...

1974 P-64 - Middle safety position

Hi to all, I just got a P-64 from Aim (with best of 5). It is a 1974 model in great shape. I've been eying and reading about these pistols for several years when Aim would get batches in, and this time I finally ordered one. I'm very pleased with what I received. It was oiled and with some grease so...
