I have a 22lb spring on my 1977 w/o the end ground flat and I have no problem getting it on or off.

I have the same condition with my P1 if I use Remington 115gr cause they are just a little shorter than the WWB ammo which works perfectly.
I would try different brand ammo if it continues after cleaning.

Good carry piece but you will get punished by the recoil for high volume target shooting.
