whqat is the # rating for the original mainspring?

There has been alot of discussion about what spring rate numbers mean, when applied to guns. Until I build a spring tester and measure for myself, I remain 'confused'. None of the explanations I've seen satisfy me. I SUSPECT the numbers refer to the force necessary to do whatever the spring controls...

Revealing my ignorance . . .

Duhawki makes a good point. I hadn't seen the issue that way, since I did not change mainsprings. I wonder how the mainspring change effect compares to the effect of different loadings and bullet mass? Gonna go off somewhere and think/calculate on this.....

trigger spring broke! please help!

OK Mike, I get it, thanks for the warning. For me, it means about 70 more before my mouth is big enough to put my foot in it. I'll get real conservative in my posts somewhere in the nineties. John

Revealing my ignorance . . .

PA-63 barrel diameter is about 13mm, like the P-64. The FEG slide is about 10 mm longer than the P-64, so it MIGHT work, but coils may have to be cut off. Also, that 10 mm has more mass, so spring rate may be "less"? What are we hoping to gain with all these recoil spring swaps? I can unde...

trigger spring broke! please help!

Mike - no offence intended, just a little humor? When I joined, I was confused by the number of stars, since there were 'generals' running around who were clearly novices (just like my 21 years in the USAF?) Now I know (I think) that the system awards us status based on the number of posts, not our ...

H & K Recoil Spring

Mike - see my post under Walther recoil springs. There's no way to determine if, or by how much, an H&K spring should be trimmed. However, if it's gonna scrape the sides of the slide, there's gonna be trouble, sooner or later (no way to predict) Spring steel, subject to constant abrasion at one ...

trigger spring broke! please help!

Mikethewreck ("expert") started it when he used the term "main (trigger) spring"? While searching for an obscure MAGAZINE at show yesterday, I was amazed at the number of people who call it a CLIP! Oh well.......

Mags dropping after last round fired

Since the mainspring also tensions the magazine release, there MAY be a connection. Also, at the last round, the magazine spring is contributing the least it ever does. First, determine if it only happens with one mag, and not others. Then look carefully at the condition and angle of both the 'bump'...

trigger spring broke! please help!

The trigger spring is not all that critical. If you can find something close, using the pieces of the old one as a guide, a little cutting and fitting should get you back in service. A pistolsmith worth his salt can make one easily. For that matter, anyone with a piece of the right size spring wire,...

Trigger harder at the end of Pull?

Once you have learned how to change mainsprings easily, try this. Put in the weakest spring you can find in your junkbox, that allows full range of action. Of course it won't fire a primer, but it will allow you to carefully feel/study the entire trigger travel, looking for snags, hangups, burrs, wh...

FWIW: S. O. G. is advertising (wholesale!) P-64s in unissued condition for $139.95, two or more, $129.95. Extra mags, $6.95 per. And get this, suggesting retail of $279! Kiss your local dealer's buttstock and see what he'll price them for you.

Revealing my ignorance . . .

I THINK my .32 PPK and the .380 share the same barrel diameter, about 12 mm. The P-64 is about 13. AND, the PPK spring is really snug on the barrel. Also, recoil springs are specific to caliber (and loading), slide mass, slide travel, free length, installed length, and room left before full compress...

Trigger harder at the end of Pull?

nscale - The force needed to pull the trigger should increase smoothly (well, sort of smoothly) until the hammer falls. If there is a noticable 'catch' or 'snag', something isn't right. My '64's DA pull was mechanically IMPOSSIBLE when first tried and the trouble was traced to the corners of the mai...
