Re: Don't change the springs.
I haven't been around here much as of late. I've been concentrating on learning to and actually loading my own ammo. My P64(s) are all OK so haven't needed to check here for info.... Anyway, a few years ago when this topic came around (for the 2000th time or so) I took my P64s to the range with a de...

Re: 1974 P 64
No recoil spring is gonna make a really noticeable difference. In fact, sometimes, iirc, the 22# spring can cause the mags to drop loose. Now, the trigger spring is a MAJOR improvement! The 18# spring is what I have in all 6 of mine. For real recoil abatement and better grip and control, look at the...

Re: All about the P64 Magazine
All my mags intermix well. My 1971, and 1974 spur hammer magazines work in all the pistols I've got a '68, 75's and a 77 and that's been my experience, too. The two little demons and I go with the P64s and about 5 boxes of ammo (I gotta keep those boys in control!) to the indoor range. We break out...

Re: All about the P64 Magazine
I can give you a fairly general yet good answer here. Converting a magazine to 7 rounds is NOT a good idea. There are only really 2 different magazine types: 1 with shorter feed lips and 1 with longer feed lips. One is for older (pre 67-68 I believe and the other for newer models). Why am I not conc...

Re: What spare parts are good to have?
The de-cocker is a GREAT idea - but kinda like unicorn milk! I'd say about the hardest part to find so hope you never need one. I would add (because these are some of what I have) are 1-2 springs to operate the slide lock-lever. Not hard to find along with a new trigger spring because member NORM SU...

Re: Buffalo Bore +p 115 grn ammo
I keep Hornady XTP ammo for SD use. Shoots well and reliable. I don't know I'd use 115gr +P ammo in a 40 yr old surplus gun. But that's me....

Re: Failures to feed
i found that a new magazine spring solved my problem with failure to feed Could you start another thread detailing what you did for the new Magazine spring? The question often comes up but no one seems to have recent documentation of how to do it. Thanks. And while you're at it, tell us WHERE you g...

Re: Failures to feed
Before you go on a tear, just try one change at a time so you'll get a better idea what the problem is/was. Might just be one simple thing and you need go no further. But you knew that .... I think, IMO, the ammo and lube are good choices. Just FYI, all my P64's run an18# hammer spring and 20# recoi...

Re: P64 shooting today
The P64 is touted to have snappy recoil- I don't see it although son said it hurt the web between his thumb and finger. After cleaning the slide and firing pin real good (last time I shot it the firing pin was stuck forward, not returning to battery). Two things I've found that helps. My youngest g...

Re: trigger pull
replaced hammer spring with wolf 19 lb double action is now very stiff with a sort of catch in the middle of trigger travel Nineteen lbs. is still a pretty good weight. It's MUCH better than the 25+ lb. pull the original spring gives but still not a walk in the park. Even the lightest spring availa...

Re: Decocker dropping issue
Anyway I'm wondering how stiff the detent spring should be, I've read some people say the plunger and spring can shoot out of its hole once you pull out the safety lever. The spring should be stiff enough to be annoying and make things difficult to re-assemble. :? That said, if cleaning the hole ou...

Re: So I put in a Wolffe spring kit
Generally, not giving the pistol a scrupulous cleaning is the source of most problems. The guns are older, and usually have a lot of lacquer buildup in the chamber from a lot of steel-cased ammo use. Most people say "I cleaned it." But there's cleaning and there's CLEANING!!! I'd suggest, ...

Re: Slide stop and spring
Our own Norm Sutton has the springs (as he does the trigger return spring) that he makes himself should you need one. Check the main forum page for his info. He makes the (better than OEM) springs himself and accepts PayPal.
