9x18 shortage???
Not to seem over-cautious or paranoid, but . . . If in any doubt, I would not use +p ammo in the p-64. If I experienced more than one case bulge with an ammo load, I would keep it as far as possible from that particular pistol. Remember, the +p rating is for chamber pressure, not velocity. Recoil is...

Truth, For the record, I have never had a single problem with the Hornady ammo. It is good quality ammo and functions flawlessly in mine. Kind of funny how different pistols can be alittle finicky. Delvinfaust, Ironically, it is the silver bear that mine doesn't like . . . God bless and straight sho...

Makarov VS P-64 My Observations
Hey RJ,
Don't forget the K-31 for those hard to reach places. (I was shooting with mine this summer at 600 yds.)

Spoke to 2 military armorers
Hey Vermonter, (and everyone else too), I am in total agreement with you that the current 9x18 loads are out of spec for the original p-64 design. It is possible, perhaps even likely, that the 71 grain bullet was a misprint in the documentation, but don't forget that the pistol went was adopted in 1...

Don,
Sounds like your son married well.
I'm not sure that I would have the guts to shoot a S&W 500. I have seen those rounds and read the ballistics.
What a woman.

Yeah, I had the same problem. Once my wife shot it, she claimed it.
On the plus side, I now own two!

Makarov VS P-64 My Observations
Boy, isn't this about like asking which one of your children you love more? I like them both. I agree that the p-64 "feels" better, but the double action in my Mak is quite nice and I don't think it is at all inferior as far as fit and finish. I think I shoot the p-64 better than the Mak, ...

P64 shooting stings my hand
Jmak, 95 grain lrn over 3.3 grains universal is magic for my p-64. It shoots groups with the holes touching, if I do my part, and there is not sting at all. I could shoot it all day. It is also pretty cheap. I trim luger brass, which is about as common as dirt, and it shoots just as accurately in my...

Primarchbentley, I have a Mak and a p-64. I like the Mak. If there were no p-64s, I would probably be pretty enthusiastic about it. The more I shoot the p-64, though, the more I think it is actually superior to a Mak. (Not picking a fight--just bear with me.) For one thing, it is just as accurate. I...

P64 shooting stings my hand
Hey Jmak, Do you, by chance, load ammo? If so, loading it down a little will solve all of your problems. I also find that the p-64 stings when shot with factory ammo. Personally, I think it is because the ammo is too hot for the gun. (As a regular diet, I mean, not for carry) For what it is worth, I...

P-64's in Pennsylvania?
Check for local pawn shops. Sometimes they have an ffl, and will give you a better price. Tell them that you just want them to do a transfer, and that you need them to send their ffl to Southen Ohio Gun. You will have to place the order in the name of the dealer and pre-pay. That is the cheapest way...

New pistol break in
Hey guys, I haven't been around in a while--mostly because I haven't found time to shoot in a while--but today I got the chance to take my second p-64 to the range for a break in. (You know, the one you talked me into buying . . .) This was new out of the paper, all I did was clean the cosmoline and...

P-64 vs. PPK Test
If I recall, the only real flaw identified with the p-64 was the double action.
. . . but that was before the hammer spring fix.
Wonder how a modified '64 would do in a straight up comparison?
