Function tested the P64 first time today
Well, there are a lot of people that have the same experience with this gun, so I have to agree with you. Mine was different, and I suspect I just got lucky with a good version. I think this could explain the 'love it or hate it' reaction to the p-64. though I do think you are right with a mod of th...

Function tested the P64 first time today
Well it is a millitary surplus weapon, and was produced for a run of time with some modifications (the triange hammers are different a bit than the round hammers).
Why I love mil surplus weapons. They are generally solid, but we have some quirks...

Leonidas, Don't think by any means that a p-64 doesn't need work, they have a really heavy DA pull, from what I've heard they were designed that way, as a police weapon. There was a desire to prevent negligent discharges, and they made the pull stiff on purpose. For what it is worth I think it varie...

I wish I could. But the way it is set up, you just have to pick a favorite....
I guess it won't give a comprehensive look, but we can chime in with our favorites.
.40 S&W is a nice caliber, BTW, I have a friend with a S&W in that, and it is a joy to shoot.

Just curious to know what your other favorite calibers might be. This also seems to be a group that doesn't do caliber flames. When I'm not firing my p-64, I enjoy my .45 LC revolver. With 800 FPS cowboy loads there isn't much kick, big, dumb and slow. It makes happy big holes in the target. And loa...

I think I can wholeheartedly agree that the gun tends to break in quite a bit with use. My safety like DF's has softened up quite a bit, and my DA has gotten much better. I don't have a trigger pull scale, but mine with a good cleaning, some cautious polishing with extra fine steel wool, and a littl...

Did I almost blow my gun up?
I think I'll be staying away from Bear given dick's experience and b52's good point about 115 grain bullets not being what this gun is designed for.
I've so far been using winchester white box which is 95 gr.
Has anyone tried the Hornady XTP ammo yet?

You know, I'm thinking of getting one of the chrome ones myself to modify, though mine has a nice nick on the bluing of the slide which makes me more prone to try mods (I'm using mine as a carry piece not a collectable).
I guess I just don't know how long I'm going to be able to resist a chromed p-64

If you don't have picture hosting on the internet, by the way, you might want to check out Photobucket at www.photobucket.com. you can upload pictures there and have them available to post.
They even give you the 'IMG' tag so you can just copy and paste. Very easy, and free.

P-64 Grips
Mine seem solid, so I'm not sure what the basis of the complaint is. (mine are thumbrest) I'm still living in hope we can attract a grip-maker over to the board to make us all wooden grips!

Interesting discussion... The size of this certainly is somewhat smaller than the PPK. Hope we get to keep our P-64s!

1976 with a triangle hammer.
Mine has a decent DA, after I cleaned it well, lubed it and polished a bit with some extra fine steel wool it is quite smooth. I can use my off hand without difficulty. It is stiff, but not bad.
