Norm,

I ran the number again and used "99" as the last two digits and I still cake up with 1952. This date is based on Delivery Records. The 1955 barrel is probably a replacement for the original. That is one nice looking Garand!

Norn, Your S/N indicates it was made in 1952; does the barrel date come close to this? You may know about this website, but here is a link: http://www.armscollectors.com/srs.htm You can enter the serial number for a loooot of weapons and get the approx. date of manufacture. I have used this search a...

Analysis of Safety Plunger Problem

WD-40 is a good product, but it is not a lubricant! It will displace water, so it your firearm gets wet, spary it down with WD-40 until you can get it cleaned properly. I use it as a cleaner and short term rust preventative. I have read on many Forums that it will not prevent rust, but having used i...

I don't know why I have gotten the K98k bug, but I have always loved these rifles! With the "bucks" I have in the three RC rifles, I probably could have found one all matching somewhere. The only problem there is I don't want to shoot an all matching in fear of breaking a part. That is the...

Well stated "bzinggg"! I was not aware how crital the crown was until I was reading the information in SHotgun News from Midway. The big problem is the crowning tools are expensive to only do 1-2 rifles. The military rifles were fired so much, the last 1" of rifling was gone. Counterb...

bzinggg, The Russian Capture K98ks were rearsenaled after WWII by the Russians and they put the Shellac on the stocks. Plus, they are the ones that mixed all the parts up. It is a shame they didn't take the time to match them up again. Although they don't really have "collector" value, the...

Trying to keep up with Norm

barrnett3006, When the rifle is shot a lot like the MN and Mauser rifles, the end of the barrel get the most wear. When the rifling gets so worn that there is nothing to stabilize the bullet when it is still in the bore, the accuracy suffers bad. But if you counterbore out the worn rifling, then the...

I finally got some photos yesterday afternoon of my latest aquisitions. A J.P. Sauer (CE Code) and a Steyr (bnz Code) K98k, RC rifles. What a shame the idiot russians did not reasseble them with the original parts to the rifle. Of course, the parts are mismatched, but resonable time period for the p...

Norm, That is a nice looking stock! Now all you need to do is get the repro stamps on the wood and it will be perfect, LOL.....Actually, there is a guy in Atlanta or Stone Mountain that has all the correct stamps and I have heard he does a good job. I think the stamps are "off" just enough...

National gun protest day

Well guys, to commemorate the National Gun Protest Day..... I bought a rifle. This is another RC K98k from Ben at Classic Arms. Since I was out of town, I asked him to ship yesterday since I will be home today to receive it. It is a 1943 "bnz" (Steyr) in the early no letter block. Actually...

grayfox, Very nice display, and professional too! About 17 years ago, I did a project for the Smithsonian Institution and in the process, I had access to every room in the Museum of natural History. One of the areas was the "Spear and Arrow" room. This room contained the complete collectio...

carguy,

If you need a manual, there are all type manuals on this website. Many of the MilSurp will be Century or Interordnance manuals, but better than nothing. Enjoy looking thru these and I hope it helps. The website is: http://www.stevespages.com/page7b.htm
